AF recently told a unit to change their patch because it had a skull on it.
Units ( not patches) that existed prior were allowed to keep patches. inactivated units that are reactivated have to design new emblems if the old emblem has a skull or skeleton.

They can with an asterisk. It's unofficial but can wear them on the field, on PCs, etc. In garrison, just the badge. This is what I was told.
By the way if you see any of the WW2-era Raider patches for sale they usually command a hefty price.
