Random Interesting Bits of History

I never tire of Robin Olds stories, even if I've them a hundred times. The man is a legend.

This interview is really something. You can tell the healthy respect he has for the North Vietnamese pilots, even as he describes shooting one down.

His WSO rose to general officer ranks in the Air Force. From what I’ve read, a humble and true professional

Mental. I love this. When I first saw this story I thought it was some random Facebook BS.

Fly Navy.

ENS Jack Ernie

For his actions that day, Ensign Ernie was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross. His remains were not recovered until many years after VF-17 had been decommissioned and the Skull and Crossbones insignia had been adopted by Fighter Squadron EIGHTY-FOUR. After it's commissioning in 1959, in an attempt to trace the history of its squadron insignia, the story of Ensign Ernie was revealed to VF-84 by Jack's family and, upon their suggestion and consent, Jack's skull and femurs were encases in glass and presented to the squadron, thereby fulfilling Jack's last request of being "remembered with the Jolly Rogers."

Clinton era policy.
AF recently told a unit to change their patch because it had a skull on it.
Units ( not patches) that existed prior were allowed to keep patches. inactivated units that are reactivated have to design new emblems if the old emblem has a skull or skeleton.

What if the skeleton has tits AND a dick?

What type of bitch-ass, shitty human being has a problem with legacy skulls and skeletons?

In 10 years Red Dawn will be us getting overrun by the Third Mexican Taco Assault Battalion. "Wolveri...is that sour cream? No, salsa, not tomatoes. Wolverines!!!! Did I say that right?"

They can with an asterisk. It's unofficial but can wear them on the field, on PCs, etc. In garrison, just the badge. This is what I was told.

By the way if you see any of the WW2-era Raider patches for sale they usually command a hefty price.

- Napoleon's Josephine had black teeth at 18 and by 30-35 they had mostly rotted from her mouth.

- A ball was held the night before the Battle of Waterloo began. Wellington used it as a war council, dispatching orders to the various officers assembled. Napoleon's march however, was so rapid and unexpected that some of the men left and went straight to their units. A few would die within 24 hours, still wearing their stockings and formal clothing.

- Robert Todd Lincoln, son of the former president, was involved in 3 presidential assassinations (his dad, Garfield, and McKinley).
