Ive been working on rucking recently and carry with me a 10lb dumbbell to imitate a rubber duck I was wondering if there's any better alternatives as the dumbbell is compact and doesn't really represent a rifle. So if you guys have any suggestions for me, shoot them my way.

Rob Shaul from Mountain Tactical Institute (Military Athlete) recommends a 10lb. sledgehammer. I've also seen sledgehammer recommended in a few other places, but I don't remember where exactly.

If you walk around with a sledgehammer in public and especially along wooded trails where you will encounter other hikers prepare for unwanted attention.

I know what you're trying to do and why but don't go overboard.

Yeah I don't want to freak people out just walking alone in the woods with a sledgehammer haha. So do you think it'd be best to just stick to my ruck and focus on bringing down my times?

And a sledgehammer is balanced just like a real weapon....

For the training y'all should be doing, a rubber duck won't matter. You kids are trying to kill yourselves before you even put on a uniform. You may think you're being smart (we seem to have a run on overmotivated new members of late) but you're beating yourselves up to no purpose. Go be a teenager.

You're right Ive been focused on this for a few months and I'm as physically fit as I possibly could be, ever since I put all my drive into this my social has kind of dropped I only have a few months left of High School and I'm squandering it by focusing on one thing. I'll just stay in shape, stay healthy, stay determined, and live my life from now on. Thanks for the eye opener

I didn't post that pic for shits and giggles you know. Carry a long thing like a stick, with both hands. It changes the way you march. Like you will have to do.

Alright ill give it try next time i hit a trail I guess focusing more on the length and not the weight of the object is what changes the dynamics huh

The Army is going to show you what to do. That's the purpose of basic training and infantry training. It's fine to be motivated and in good shape but one stupid injury doing things the wrong way could screw your whole plan. Exercise, eat right, stay healthy and let the Army professionals do their job and train you. And you hit the ground running and be the most outstanding trainee they've ever seen.

Thanks! I just read the thread about over prepping and how could actually hinder your performance and I'm just gonna focus on staying in shape and out of trouble til my time comes.
