The Marine's want YOU...'re innovative ideas?

My Bn CO at 2/6 (he wore an eyepatch like Moshe Dayan8-)) was a progressive. He had me, for a time, manning a telephone hotline for general feedback and/or suicide.O_o Nobody called except one guy who bitched about the chow. :whatever: Then, the Lt Col put a suggestion box in the hallway at Bn HQ. I was the one who had to empty it and review the contents. Wow. I still remember some of them: better selections in the barrack vending machines; fewer inspections; one guy was sick and tired of raking pine needles; a couple wanted more lenient haircut/moustache regulations. And one was a crude drawing of a penis and a vagina with USMC on the penis. :wall::wall:

Needless to say, the suggestion box was removed after two weeks.

Well, I just went to the site to register and give them the ideas I wrote in a letter to Conway back in '11. Unfortunately, they seem uninterested in the ideas of former Marines as you have to have a current EDIPI. So I couldn't register. Oh well.

Here's the letter again (with several specific recommendations), for anyone interested. Funny how, even earlier in 2010, I made a proposal to my unit to purchase a 3D printer so that we could produce a plastic piece that Sandia developed for deta sheet that would significantly improve our metal penetration capabilities. Now they're all "maker movement" and "innovation". Bleh, this is probably just pandering to millennials so the USMC seems cool and timely and relevant.

Edit: added a word.

@Board and Seize - what you wrote is wonderful, and I took the time to read every word; I'd wager that no one you sent it to did though. Because I went thru something similar in 1990 (pre-email), I expect that there was no interest in your comments, your letter is not what they are waiting for. They are waiting for some young Marine to send 3 or 4 bullet points that covers an idea already being considered. Then they'll celebrate that young Marine for his (likely her) out of the box thinking, and issue an ALMAR, giving her all the credit. And all the hate when it flops -

Signed,

Bitter and burned in Minnesota

First, that is a helluva letter. Holy crap. Second, I agree regarding pandering to Millennials.

Great letter, especially with regard to promotions, "stigmatized social welfare" and the risk aversion mentality. Sorry you never got a response. From the sidelines here, I perceived Amos as someone who personified risk aversion and not rocking the boat...rather than as an innovator. If you want to know the truth, I think you wasted your letter on the wrong man.
