Read the book several times before I watched the movie. My take away was learning how to drown-so sad. SAR are one of my fave units, but that night The Andrea Gail went down-there was no rescue possibility. Book better than the movie imo.

I lived close to the Chesapeak Bay for a few years. I was stunned to find that the old salts plying thier living from the water, these watermen could not swim. When asked about this, they had thought that if they went over in bad weather, they were not going to survive the event. Not being able to swim, shortened the process. They are a breed apart. The New England watermen may have had the same mindset. I read the book, and saw the movie. Both were good.

My husband is a Caper from Nova Scotia and does not know how to swim but was always on boats-not fishing but pleasure boats.Drowning can be a fast way to go but wouldnt want to go out that way. Agree-the movie was great.
