The Trump Presidency 2.0

Once again, Newsom is certainly attempting to save his own face. Lynsi Snyder has been outspoken about the way CA is governed, but he isn't addressing why she is moving out of California, only that In N Out isnt leaving. Which is true.

Why is Lynsi leaving California?

Her stated reason is so she can oversee the development of their new eastern HQ as well as their expansion into states other than TN.

The podcast this all came from she made a comment about "raising a family in CA is hard". I'd be more inclined to believe that if she was a normal person, but she's a billionaire. You hit a certain budget and you kind of have unlimited ability to raise your kids how you want.

Another thing not directly said, but covered through the podcast, is she's a pretty involved Evangelist. I think its fair to say she'll find a better cultural/ministerial fit in Franklin.

Like most things, probably various percentages of all three are involved in her decision.
Overall point still stands that her moving does not equal "Newscum chased In-n-Out away".

In the recent past she has also made clear that she's not happy with Newsom's actions during Covid, his handling of the Homeless, and having to close stores because of crime. And that she doesn't want to raise her kids in California. Newsom's not wrong but conveniently leaves those parts out.

She is moving the HQ to Tennessee because the cost of doing business in California is high, and we're not talking about taxes.

The issue however with with all these states that create policies to attract businesses is those businesses bring voters that change the fabric of those states. Voters that vote for policies that made their previous states complete hell holes.

I’d call it the housing equity effect if it were me. People can take the equity out of their homes and retire early, move to a lower cost area and imbue their California values into those new areas.

That's a good point. It's happening all over Mexico, just with white Americans buying or renting out things that Mexicans could afford pre-pandemic but no longer can. To the point where there are protests have been occurring off and on for a few years: 'Gringo go home.' Mexico City protests target Americans, gentrification

Many in my family have done it. Moving to Washington and Idaho. Others wish they could but they have jobs and salaries in California that are just completely out of line for their respective fields. Hard to go from a cop making 200+k to making 55. Even with a lower cost of living.

She's clearly stated that she doesn't want to raise her family in California. Financial is a big part of it all, but let's not sugar coat it and make it the only reason. She can pay the bills. Values are not aligned. As I understand it the HQ will remain in CA? I've listened to many podcasts with her, she's not happy in California.

4 of the largest dots do not have a state income tax and AZ is the lowest of those that do (like OR and CO). People are moving to where they aren't taxed to the moon and back. 3 of those states are adjacent to CA so people are moving but remaining close to family and friends. You know this being in AZ and all, but it is rocket surgery for others.

And the lady moving to TN...another state w/o a state income tax. Double-edged sword though because employers will pay a little less in some areas as a result. In FL it doesn't help too that a lot of revenue is driven by tourism.

That's my point. It's not about the taxes. Obviously Tennessee are also giving In N Out tax incentives to move corporate HQ as well.

Being close to my parents in case something crazy happens is very helpful. Something Texas certainly did not provide.

It seems like the main corporate HQ is going to stay in CA, while they build up a regional HQ in TN. You'll likely see it flip-flop in the next 5-10 years where the corporate HQ is in TN and it becomes a regional one in CA.

I can see that happening if she is still as hands-on as she is now and if she stays in Tennessee.

It'll be interesting to see the effect this has on In N Out. I like the food, but I think part of the appeal for people in the eastern states is the fact that you want something you can't have. It's sure to be fun for awhile.

Other way around. Corporate HQ is in Irvine, that office is being sunsetted. Baldwin Park "Burger University" is remaining open because the primary mission of the facility is employee training.

Lynsi has said as much in interviews that part of what makes In N Out is the novelty and scarcity.

There are 3-4 of them in my town and I drive by another 2 in other twons on my way to work; they're still just about as busy as when they first opened a few years ago. Can't say the same for other regional chains like Cane's or whataburger.

I think it helps that they have a small menu, very quick service, and are pretty decent for the price.

Gotcha. The comment I saw said they were closing Irvine (by 2029) and moving those corporate employees to Baldwin Park. They dont expect the TN HQ to be open for another year, so I assumed it'd be a few years until the the main HQ moved out there.

One fun lil wrinkle is something I’ve talked about before, and others have as well- precedent.

We’ve arrested former President and put them on trial. People (on this page!) celebrate it.

Too bad it’s the right that has the opportunity, which we know they won’t take.

Biden wasn’t behind the pardon, his staff was. The CIA, FBI, NSA and larger IC made up crimes at the direction and approval of Obama to spy on not just an American, but an American president.

Seems to me that those things are more egregious than, say, a campaign donation or a real estate valuation.
