Always liked that name for the Army pre WWII, and I'm not mad at the name change for the whole DOD now.

You know the old saying, the US never lost a war as the Department of War......So, out of curiosity, why did they change it in 1947? Sounded too mean?
From what I've seen it still needs Congressional blessing, this just allows them to refer to it as DOW(?) as a secondary name, not an offical one.
As an aside; apparently the DOD name is due to Woke in the 40s?

It'll be interesting to see what kind of pushback he gets from congress just because TDS. I like the name "Dept of War" better, but whatever. Its been DOD so long I am personally fine with it either way.

I will say that non-traditional media and a LOT of people in the Char-Meck area (Charlotte/Mecklenburg County) are really pissed about this, so the Charlotte incident seems to be an ignored-by-the-media thing and the people are sending a lot of hate to the Charlotte mayor and city council.

Congress amended the 1947 National Security Act to make the change because they were streamlining a lot of military responsibilities and thought that the new name reflected new mission sets and the new "joint warfare" concept.
I like the Department of War, but whatever.

But a White Democrat fights crime? SAVIOR. I remember when California overwhelmingly passed the 3 strikes proposition in an election. I remember Broken Windows policing.

None of us would have even known about this if it wasn't for his platform. You think there was any coverage on Bluesky, Threads, Mastadon, etc...
The Flag in Bio crowd is awfully quiet on this one. Wonder why.
