The Trump Presidency 2.0

Maybe I should take this comment slightly back on the Army acquisition fuck up...we're calling the current tank that's being tested the M1A3...it is not close to an A3 model as it is a completely different turret and engine system, also, it has an autoloader.

That’s a product of laws and how we handle acquisitions. Models vs. block upgrades and the approval and funding process.

Forgive me for posting this here but it seems rather noteworthy because someone or someone's are creating groups on Facebook using just bots and fake pages as admins and moderators to push division hard.

This one has over 170 alone: God, we Hate Trump | Facebook

Not one of these "females" for a feminism group are real either, over 30 so far and growing: Feminist News | Facebook

Another anti Trump group mirrored after the other two groups of the same name and same cover and main photos, has a staggering amount of fakes for mods and admins as well: Liz Cheney/Adam Kinzinger Against Trump | Facebook

I'm starting to wonder if the same agent provocateur's is also in the opposite political spectrum groups as mods and admins as well. This is actual topic worthy worth talking about because it's keeping us all divided even more preying on people's allegiances and emotions, some of which have actually acted on it even.

I've been noticing a lot of these engagement farming fake pages lately. I don't believe it's limited to just anti-trump stuff, but across anything and everything that could have divisive sides. I used to hate when every fourth post on my wall was an advert, now I think it takes maybe 1 in 10 for it to be actually related to one of my connections. totally enshittified

The Russians were pretty big on perfecting the troll farm approach (both sides) in the mid 2010s.

Divisive topics get more engagement.

Way, way more. We (the crew at OR) have said it for years... if we went scorched earth negative on the training pipelines, we would immediately skyrocket in analytics.

Most of that was well over-stated. Look at the actual impact the Internet Research Agency. Usually stated as a "look at what the Russians did to sway our elections!," but doesn't really stand up under any scrutiny when you look into it. Most seems like posturing to help eventually lead to conflict with Russia. I believe the current threat to us in this is mostly coming from India and China and has just spread way worse due to generative AI.

If you're interested and haven't seen it.. the IRA stuff is still available for research in a couple of github repos.

To be clear: I'm not saying that they had an outsized impact on swaying the elections, just pointing out that foreign state actors increasingly use social media for helping inflame division.

I have not fact-checked this yet, but it seems intuitive to me.

Regardless of administration.

The guy who started realnewsnobullshit was on...Shawn Ryan I think? a month or two ago. He did a bit of a dive into bots and "influencers" on social media. Bots are definitely pushing paid narratives. Who knows how much that influences an election given our near obsession with echo chambers but bots are out there. I won't hazard a guess on their efficacy in past elections.

There was a leftist group where one brave soul actually tried talking sense and asking people to vet the news to make sure it's real, unedit and not biased or opinionated, and she was getting flak for it. By both real and fake person's in this group.

Something definitely needs to be done. Can a crackdown on bots be had? Remove AI from social media, or at least make it for things that aren't division based and rage baiting? Develop an algorithm to discover doom scrolling and put other things on there instead of echo chambers?

I am definitely suspect of anyone with a digital creator or influencer on their page, and posting absolute toxic garbage.
