The Trump Presidency 2.0

The Russians were pretty big on perfecting the troll farm approach (both sides) in the mid 2010s.

Divisive topics get more engagement.

Most of that was well over-stated. Look at the actual impact the Internet Research Agency. Usually stated as a "look at what the Russians did to sway our elections!," but doesn't really stand up under any scrutiny when you look into it. Most seems like posturing to help eventually lead to conflict with Russia. I believe the current threat to us in this is mostly coming from India and China and has just spread way worse due to generative AI.

If you're interested and haven't seen it.. the IRA stuff is still available for research in a couple of github repos.

To be clear: I'm not saying that they had an outsized impact on swaying the elections, just pointing out that foreign state actors increasingly use social media for helping inflame division.

I have not fact-checked this yet, but it seems intuitive to me.

Regardless of administration.

The guy who started realnewsnobullshit was on...Shawn Ryan I think? a month or two ago. He did a bit of a dive into bots and "influencers" on social media. Bots are definitely pushing paid narratives. Who knows how much that influences an election given our near obsession with echo chambers but bots are out there. I won't hazard a guess on their efficacy in past elections.

There was a leftist group where one brave soul actually tried talking sense and asking people to vet the news to make sure it's real, unedit and not biased or opinionated, and she was getting flak for it. By both real and fake person's in this group.

Something definitely needs to be done. Can a crackdown on bots be had? Remove AI from social media, or at least make it for things that aren't division based and rage baiting? Develop an algorithm to discover doom scrolling and put other things on there instead of echo chambers?

I am definitely suspect of anyone with a digital creator or influencer on their page, and posting absolute toxic garbage.

It's funny how the right were pissed off with Mexicans/Latinos but now it's changed to Somalians. Lol
It's nothing to do where they are from. The Latinos south of here who came here legally are some of the most hard working people, and they end up having kids who were taught these values and ended up more USA in values than the whites and "natives" with Asian DNA whom aren't indigenous at all using their own arguments against them whom were born and raised here.

I can't get angry at them for wanting a better life. Those trying to sneak in and keeping the stereotypes alive are the ones we don't like.

And I have always disliked Somalians here, nothing they had done was to make a better life, it was to to get free things and be crooks.
