I did!You should like Fleming's work.
Casino Royale - published in 1953.
Yes, it was a fast read. Finished it in an afternoon at the beach (F - you Tom Clancy and your 500 pages of spec manuals)
Some spoilers again (from the movie and the books).
The game is not poker but instead baccarat - which I didn’t really understand but I got the idea. The Craig movie was actually very similar to the book -
Bad guys had the same names and similar qualities - Vesper plays a similar role, but I thought her demise in the book and what James learned of her after her death was significantly more tragic and heart breaking than the film. You understand why he could never trust anyone ever again.
The very same bond torture scene was in place and written in quite uncomfortable detail.…damn, that was 1953 when he came up with that!
For the most part, all of the key scenes in the film were covered in the book first. There is one significant event missing in the book, and you think it is about to happen, but then it never does.
His drink being poisoned does not happen in the book, but I was waiting for it as he is served a drink and does not know where it comes from.
As AWP said, a fun and quick read. I like his style.
Next up, From Russia with Love.
Agreed. I first read them in the early 90’s. Eventually they got wordy and harder to follow…ie: everyone was trying to be Tom ClancyThe original Bourne books aren't bad, but the series kind of bogged down.
