Props to Chris Rock for maintaining his composure.
I think Jada Pinket really fucked up Will Smith with all the cheating, and now he’s beyond the breaking point.
I mean...I'm kind of embarrassed for Will. He should have knocked Rock the fuck out.
Looking at it again, he slapped Rock.

I think it was low class for Will to do that especially since it was a joke. He could have addressed him backstage.

The lead up was talking about couples that were there for awards together, and Chris said “Jada, I can’t wait for G.I. Jane 2”
In the videos that show it, Will is seen laughing, smiling and clapping. Then it pans to Jada giving a death stare. I can only imagine she had a word with him, based on the timing between the delivery of the joke, and then when Chris acknowledges that Will is approaching him.
Jada has alopecia which allegedly causes hair loss. (I say 'allegedly' because I'm not looking it up, am not a doctor, and don't care if that's true).
If you think a woman gaining weight is emotionally traumatic, one losing her hair is devastating. Whatever Will and Jada's past, Rock would have touched a major nerve with a couple where the woman is dealing with hair loss.
Will's delayed reaction, the laughter...c'mon man. No one's been so shocked by something they didn't laugh at first, a sort of nervous chuckle as their brain processed WTF just happened? No one here has paused to take stock of something major and out of the blue? Putting myself in Will's position, I don't think his response is unusual.
With that said, a slap like that is a good effort. It is demeaning to the one slapped...you don't think enough of them to throw a punch. Counterpoint: if I might take a charge for battery on a fellow entertainer, potentially ruining my rep and future in that field, after a comment that likely traumatized my wife (degraded internationally and live in front of her peers)... a motherfucker has to hit the floor. "This is the way."
Will's tearful apology afterwards...weak, but whatever. Own the moment. Go full Nathan Jessup.
Awards shows and Hollywood are a joke anyway. Now future hosts will "uber-vanilla" their monologues to avoid this sort of altercation. This incident could without exaggeration be one of the last "wow" moments in the Oscars' history as viewership declines and people lose interest.

Agreed on both parts. I have to wonder if this gives ‘Hollywood” the perception that they have the right to assault someone who makes fun of them…which is pretty much everyone in my circle of friends.
The only thing that could have made that more entertaining was if it had been Ricky Gervais (whom I find very funny), just so the next day I could watch Twitter blow up demanding that Smith be charged with a Hate Crime since Gervais is white.
100% chance that at sometime in the near future you will see a prominent comedian work the phrase “black on black crime” into one of their bits based on this incident.
