I faced this problem as well. I came in as a 97E but only because they stopped allowing initial entry into 97B. While I was deployed I dropped my CI packet and was accepted. Some class date and DEROS issues came up so that got nixed. All for the better. I would rather perform intel on an offensive capacity than defensive. 35L in my unit never went outside the wire and just got fat on base and watched movies. Not saying all CI did this, I have many friends there, but 35M will give you more satisfaction if your goal is to find and remove as many terrorists as possible. 35L have there place too but it's just plain annoying when one of them comes and tells me how to conduct my duties. It comes down to whether you want to "kill" terrorists, or prevent them from gathering info on us.
Generally speaking, if you are a HUMINT collector and you're "killing" anyone, you're not doing it right.
