Fitness Milestones & Plans to share

Brother, if I ever get stage IV anything, I'm going to drink all the bourbon and not save any for anyone else.

My wife gets mad every now and then because one of the areas in which I have a tumor is my liver. I ask her, "what's it going to do to me?" and I continue to drink. Now, I get that she's scared and wants to squeeze every second out of me so I try to be very balanced and empathic in my response.

Thats the hard part, when we are lucky enough to have people who want us to live even when we are suffering.

In full disclosure, it's a bit of a mind fuck for me. I know my outcome but not the hour, and I know with each passing day that gets closer, but I am helpless to do anything about it. My 19 year-old daughter has random bursts of crying because she has such a hard time with it. It kills me.

Dang bro. Stop making me feel my feelings homie. Good grief!

One of the things I never understood when I was in the best shape of my life, or maybe it's never really figured out was maintenance calories. Because I either went up or down on the scale, and maybe it was because back when I was 25 and living the life trying get cut up was my calories were probably too low.

And as I do this current period of weight loss starting essentially from zero when it comes to strength and aerobic capacity is what is maintenance? How do I stay the same weight day to day or on the days I'm not working out? Because based on my current intentions/plan, stimulus is going to go up and I'm trying to keep the cut to between 5-7lbs/month.

Here's the kicker, I thought I was going to gain weight on my lifting days, that's how it has gone since I put in weight training two weeks ago, calories essentially flat against Monday and dropped weight significantly. It was only one day, but the intensity currently is not that high so I was slightly surprised. Anyways, adding 15 minutes of additional running next week, then after 9 sessions (5 minutes per run, 3 runs per week) I'll add 60 minutes of indoor cycling (3 20 minute sessions)

5 minutes of additional running will probably be about 80 KCALs

20 minutes of additional running will probably be about 150-200 KCALs

So, to start, add 25g of Carbs (100 KCALs) and go from there?

Dunno, it's just the start, nothing is linear, but trying to make this cut permanent.

Training overall is going well. Originally I set the goal on my Garmin for 30 minutes for this 5k race. 27:10 chip time, no idea why that is slower than my hand time because I started my watched before and stopped it after the mats.

Because I hard a work trip in the middle of this block that created a bunch of fatigue (I ran 2x and hiked with 800 feet of vert over 2 miles), I didn't roll straight back into normal training when I got home.

Really happy about where things are overall, nutrition hasn't been completely dialed in, but feel ok. Now to really lock in until Pat's run.

I wouldn't say I completely nailed Pat's Run, but this time last year I was slow as shit and unfit. Overstressed etc. I beat that time by 17 minutes. I had a goal of 38 minutes, and I beat that by 1:32. I ran 4.2 miles in 36:28, to give you an idea of how big this race is. 30,000 people sign up to run in Tempe. I don't know a race this short of this scale anywhere. NYM is 50,000 people. We were in corral 14, my chip didn't register a time last year, although not sure it would have been fast enough to get me in a running corral anyways, so they then put you based on bib number which is due to when you register.

Anyways, we were at the front of the Corral, so that gave me some space at the beginning due to the interval between corrals and I laid down a fast first mile, after that it got beyond crowded trying to dodge walkers who wouldn't move to the right. I wasn't able to leave it all out there...but definitely close I think as my legs feel it.
