If you want some great books on the naval side, look up James Hornfischer. Neptune's Inferno is about the Navy at Guadalcanal and Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors is about the Battle Samar. He's an amazing writer and both books are well worth your time.

Retribution by Max Hastings and Shattered Sword by Parshall are two other terrific books about the naval side of the Pacific theater.
