Good morning gents,

I joined the Marine Corps in 2007, as a Motor T Operator and, despite the ups and downs, have been loving it ever since.

I deployed with the 13th MEU in '09 aboard the USS Boxer. Some of the ports we hit up were Hawaii, Guam, Thailand, Djibouti, Kenya, and Jordan. After that it was over to Afghanistan 10.2 supporting infantry units at Edinburgh and Nolay. Did quite a few patrols and got my bell rung a few times but I'm whole and all my buddies came back whole too thank God.

I've been through some badass courses with the unit I'm with now and just recently was able to attend airborne school. THAT was a blast.

I'm really interested in lat moving over to recon and I've seen many threads that were very helpful in preparing for it. As always any other advice or threads that anyone can send my way would be most appreciated.

Looking forward to being part of SS and talking with you guys.

Yut.

You don't hear of too many Marines going to airborne school outside of the recon/marsoc community. Welcome to the site!

I appreciate the welcome fellas.
And you are very right about that. I got exceptionally lucky to get to go. Even had a Ranger for a black hat.

I remember jump school in 95. The Marines were all like, ra ra ra and motivated. The SEALs (students) would run circles around the whole company while doing P.T. The company would have to do pull ups before chow. The Army guys would do the required 6 and go in and the SEAL's and Marines would do like 100 each and hold up the line. The blackhats would attempt to smoke the SEAL's and Marines and they would laugh. Those pesky SEAL's with their long hair. :D. I remember bunking with a dude from Ft. Lewis (some leg unit from there). He went to R.I.P. / Ranger Batt. after jump school.

F.M.

Scary how similar it is between then and now. I even had all the army privates yelling Yut and oorah. Army guys didn't like that too much but we all had a great time. All my fellow motor t guys seriously hate on me though, and the high speed dudes can't help but give me shit about my "lead sled" they all invite me to go to their jumps though so.hopefully I'll get those gold wings!

Welcome aboard.
Were you on the Boxer when the Maersk incident was going down, April of '09?

Oh yea. It was interesting, we couldn't go outside the skin of the ship to check it out out anything but we could watch it all go down on the AFES Tv station. Didn't realize exactly who those guys were until a few years later.
