Surviving Black Hawk Down on Netflix
Time for the hate, time to buck the trend.
If you know nothing or little about Oct 3-4, 1993 in Mogadishu Somalia, this is a good series. If you know anything about the battle, I think you'll be disappointed. No disrespect to the men who fought or participated in the series, but the series is incredibly bland. The interviews and perspectives of both Americans and Somalis are excellent, they really are excellent. You can only squeeze so many people into a 3-hour documentary, I understand this. A few more participants, particularly on the US side would be nice, particularly Delta and 160th or some of the 24th STS guys.
It spends 2 of the 3 episodes on the first day, cramming the night fight, exfil, and aftermath into the last episode. It felt rushed and incomplete. The movement from the target building to Crash Site 1 felt like "rubberbanding" in gaming where you teleport along a path. Little discussion on the night fight, nothing about Tim Wilkenson and his AFC, a vague reference to the Little Bird runs that saved the guys that night, you get the idea. The convoys were treated in a similar manner and it became hard to follow with little mention made to the other nations and 10th Mountain.
They have enough material to put together a 6 parter and make a banger of a series. It felt rushed and poorly edited with some critical stories missing and gaps in coverage. I don't recommend it, but YMMV.
