National Protest and 'disband the cops' discussion (and now ICE)

We had a CT doc say on Twitter he wouldn't treat MAGA and I when I sent the chair an email, the reply was "he's entitled to his opinion."
How is a credible communicated Hippocratic Oath breaking, an opinion here? It's only an opinion until he finally refuses to treat on political grounds? Or is now threatening to violate a sacred Hippocratic Oath breaking a 1st Amendment protection now?

The Hippocratic Oath is a lot like swearing the oath when enlisting; a lot of people do it because they have to but don't actually care about the words.

Oaths are something that hippies soak in almond milk over night and then eat for breakfast with a low fat sugar free soy latte...
...or maybe its something else, I could have my terms mixed up.

Who knows - besides, what difference at this point does it make?

I am not surprised. Yours is a small community.

Here's what gets me. I, like you, will deliver the best care I can regardless of one's politics. Not getting into HIPAA, I was on a case here on a well know terrorist. I still did my job. Thanks to Butner I have also treated infamous criminals. Same care.

Our profession is going nuts gushing about that Pretti dude being a nurse (even though he was fired from the VA), but have been largely silent about this chick and some others who have called for anything from death to serious harm against republicans/conservatives. Today one of our leadership sent out a very neutral email that basically said 'we're here for you' regarding processing Pretti, but didn't say anything about 'there is no place in our profession to call for harm or violence against those with whom we disagree.' We had a CT doc say on Twitter he wouldn't treat MAGA and I when I sent the chair an email, the reply was "he's entitled to his opinion."

I don’t know if we are being silent about this crazy lady. It was the main talk in the break room today, and the Instagram meme pages got on it pretty quick. Our professional organization condemned it. I don’t know what else can be done. She lost an extremely lucrative career she worked hard to get because of saying stupid stuff she shouldn’t have even thought of.

Pretti was fired from the VA? I hadn’t seen that, and his coworkers very much seemed to think he still worked there.

lol… I haven’t heard that one yet either.

Alex Pretti’s union ‘disappointed’ with VA head’s reaction, calls for independent investigation

The union that represents employees of the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center is speaking out about the death of one of its own members.

AFGE Local 3669, a chapter of the American Federation of Government Employees, called the death of intensive care nurse Alex Pretti “tragic and senseless” and said it is “especially disappointed” with U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins’ reaction, according to a statement released Monday.

Part of Collins statement:
“We can confirm Alex Pretti was a nurse at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.”

He also has a super troubled, somewhat recent past.

My question now, is that by all accounts- he wasn’t a bad dude. But something changed in his behaviors.

A week ago, video of the altercation that led to his broken ribs. He was released.

ETA, looks like him, I no longer trust any AI recognition, so delete that.

I don’t have an immediate source for it, but I *think* I remember reading it waa his parents that reported this. They mentioned he was recently fired or left his job and had a change in behavior.

I never followed up to verify if that report was accurate in any way because I just didn't care that much. 🫤

Anybody able to find more with the new Pretti video? (The one @amlove21 linked).

The bit about being "BBC verified" piqued my interest, but I can't find anything other than these guys claiming it's a breaking story.

Doesn't mean the video's fake, just a weird claim if it isn't factual.

The level of sophistication here. Added to their own database. Coordination. Shifts. Dispatch. "Radio Discipline".

Find the accounts, lock them out, show up at house, extradite to Texas or Florida on Federal charges.

If you guys want to know what Civil War looks like...well hello Minneapolis because that's the tinder.

ABC news showed that video tonight, but did not verify it was him, just that it “looked like him”.

Didn't even see you post this, I saw it on another site that was higher res...sure looks like him and he seems to have an anger problem.

So- I know we desperately don’t want the Pretti video to be true but let’s look at this for two seconds.

Same clothes. When you have a work outfit, you wear your work outfit to work. Pretti was an active member with an important to role in the signal chats (they relocated his movements the day of the shoot). Strike 1.

Same actions. Disrupting ice, becoming violent. He was detained (should have been arrested) an released after a fight with officers. The shoring wasn’t his first fight it was a pattern we can apply backwards and forwards in time. Strike 2.

Kidney carry of a pistol. Until we get some stabilized zoomed in pics, I can’t say if it was the same gun. Light colored grip though. Also, no one serious conceals with kidney carry. Amateurs do that. Pretti was most likely an amateur LARPing as a dude with a gun, and didn’t know that appendix carry is the only way you should conceal (unless you wanna die). Strike 3.

Actions day of shoot are a straight line in escalation. He was already beaten up (broken rib) 11 days earlier. If you get your ass whipped by the Nazis, I bet you spend a week stewing and sayin “nope, next time I’m on the ground like this I’m skinning the smoke wagon.” Strike 4.

Facial AI works and is reliant, but let’s just ignore it for funsies. BBC quoted “97% match.”

So it was either Pretti- or - it was a white male with a beard wearing the same style and coloring of clothes, performing the exact same actions with escalating violence from one incident to the next in a believable way, carrying a sidearm in the same configuration, that also just so happens to have a 97% match on facial recognition.

This is the ‘god of the gaps’ logical fallacy in LEO form. We have A-X right in front of us, but folks can’t make the jump to Y and “yeah man that’s him” (Z) because they don’t have Y.

@amlove21

Not disagreeing with your take; I think the video was real, cause AI ain't that good yet.

The BBC claim just stood out, because it wasn't something that could be verified at the time. Less the video was fake and more "is the poster trying to make an appeal to authority".

No funny business though, They saved it for a 2200 (GMT) broadcast.
I get that, and don’t necessarily disagree with it either. I just think, completely devoid of emotion, this one is pretty clearly him until proven it isn’t and not the other way around. Personal feeling on this one.

I’d like to think they will eventually pull his signal chat and verify that he was there; unfortunately (for 2 or 3 reasons), I think the signal chat might be sophisticated enough to have better tradecraft and COMSEC than our own retarded govt.
