I've been using insoles over the last month and a half and they've done wonders. I've thrown the green Superfeet insoles into my garrison and field/rucking boots (recommended by flight doc, purchased at REI) and PF-specific insoles for my running shoes. Some soreness in the mornings but it only lasts for a few steps. It's pretty unreal how significant the improvement has been.

I've dealt with PF bad this past summer. I would walk all messed up every morning until it loosened up. I didn't know what it was so just dealt with the pain for a couple of months. Once I figured it out, a combination of ice, shoe inserts and staying off of it helped a lot. A good way to do ice is to freeze water in a plastic cup and slide it out and put that in a sandwich bag. The curve of the ice mold will fit the arch of the foot nicely. I wound up buying a compression sleeve with ice pack inserts though.

I'm going to have to try the feet off the end of the bed if I ever deal with it again.
