Podcasts.

Shawn Ryan recently had Steve Kwast as his guest. Kwast was the first openly anti-contractor commander of the 455th Wing at Bagram I can remember. We looked up some of his work back then in part because the Wing newsletter would publish his articles. Top of the PDF/ "front page" treatment in the Wing newsletter. Contractors understandably hated the guy and he wasn't popular with his airmen.

I don't know if his current energy from space, we know China is mining the moon, helium 3 can power civilization for thousands of years stuff, etc. is true or not. Dude was heavily anti-contractor back then and now that he has his own business, he advocates space-based initiatives which would probably lead to him being?

A gov't contractor.

Dude was a dickhead and loon back then, and I doubt he's changed.

@amlove21 thanks for having me on the show. I thought it was a great episode; you and the Ones Ready team know how to run a podcast.

I also love the title and appreciate the trouble that it's going to get me into with my friends in the intel community. This morning, my wife (also former intel) was like, "Oh great, just what we need, more fuel for your ego.";-) When I sent the link to my youngest daughter she asked me, "Dad, did you come up with that title?" :hmm:

Ep 476: Smart Intel Guy? There’s Only One—And He’s Charlie Faint! (<--- the title is an inside joke, explained in the podcast)

Moi? An ego? Coming up with a self-aggrandizing podcast title? Why... I would NEVER!! :-o:-x:sneaky:8-)

Great work, brother. Fun times, as always.

It was our honor to have you on bro. Great episode.

Everyone say something mean about me in the comments it’s my schtick.

Looking forward to seeing it. Always looking for ways to get out of work. When does it "drop" as you kids say?

@amlove21 , I am sometimes shocked at the comments.

@amlove21 @Marauder06 , very nice podcast. I really enjoyed it. Mara, you're much better looking in person, and I for one would've enjoyed the backshot of your unmade bed. Aaron, y'all 3 had good questions. Very thoughtful.

Re: the unit that cannot be named, I had a friend in the Navy who spent time with them. Or not (wink wink). Of course he says nothing, but gets irked when I talk about the book The Killer Elite.

I'm gonna ignore the part about you liking backshots. ;)

Thanks brother, it was a fun podcast. I haven't seen the video version yet.

Speaking of podcasts, a bit surprised this hasn't come up yet:

A ton of fireworks on a local firearms forum because he's from NC and a lot of us on that forum have had his classes.

Curious to hear your thoughts and opinions?

Personally, I had to shut it off about 2/3 the way through. I'm not a hatter, but not exactly a fan either.

I listened to the whole thing and I'm with you on that take. One minute was awesome, the next chest thumping, then another awesome vignette or two, then more chest thumping, then some humility at the end with the gun charges. "There was no question I would have been SGM of a squadron and probably the whole unit. No question."

In the end, and he admits this, he peaked with the Kurt Muse rescue. 6 months or so into the unit and he hit his peak. Wild.

I enjoyed the episode, but I hope he can beat down his demons, because they were all over that episode.

My take as well.

In full disclosure I have had several of his classes, he's a great instructor, never had any issues with him; once he went out of his way to help me. That said, I knew (now deceased) a 5th SF guy who was in a sister ODA who said he was always a self-important, pompous guy. I imagine the truth is in the middle.

This has become popular in local gun enthusiast forums because he's "local" (NC guy). He has become a pariah. If he hasn't been PNGd from the Unit, he sure has around these parts.

He is definitely self absorbed and with reason, he definitely has been a leader in the firearms development and training industry. I'm glad he took ownership of his legal troubles, I didn't see that part. I respect him, just not someone I would want to have a beer with.
