Hello all. I am new here and considering putting in for STO selection (also maybe ALO). I have found a few things on other sites, but am hoping to get a no kidding assessment of what family life is like after the pipeline. How often are you home vs out (TDY, Deployment, etc) and when you are home, are you really home? How is it on the wife and kids? I've read that you have shorter, more frequent deployments, but when you're home you are usually TDY or out in the field, training. I'm just trying to nail down some expectation management for myself. I know that if I go for this, my head has to be 100% in the game or myself or others could get hurt, so I'm trying to get ahead of it. I'm pretty big on family and am trying to figure out what the balance looks like with this job. Thanks for your time. I really appreciate it.

Is your soon-to-be wife independent?
She'll be in-charge when you are gone (a lot) and has to be comfortable with you gone, and out of commo.

It takes a special woman to be a AFSOC wife, she needs to be independent, and be able to put up with change. Remind her she is part of a team
