This goes back to something we've talked about a lot on the board over the years: giving war a chance. Trying to play nice and use "soft power" in dealing with the Palestinians, or the Iranians, or Syria or Iraq or Russia or anyone else going back to the founding of our country does. not. work. To quote one of the least-likeable characters from one of my favorite TV series (except Season 8--fuck you, Season 8): "POWER is power."@AWP absolutely cooked when he highlighted the AA Part Deux... if this happens, it's the single biggest diplomatic win of all of our lifetimes, and there isn't a number 2.
"Peace in the middle east" is equal parts a joke, a cynical take, and a meme.
If the President does it, though...
Sometimes you've got to let them fight it out. If the war wasn't unnaturally prolonged between the Palestinians and the Israelis though things like UNRWA, they could have sorted all of this out a loooonnnnggg time ago. If it wasn't for making bold, sweeping, bull-in-the-china-shop moves like moving the US emabassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem where it belongs, we wouldn't be in the situation we are in now, with peace about to break out between Israel and the parts of the Arab world that matter.
