The Trump Presidency 2.0

I have family in Brooklyn, and they have a business. They don't know what they are going to do. I told them 'you makes your votes, you takes your chances.'

While I think we all know how this will end, the people have spoken. (or the machine has spoken depending on one's worldview)

Now we can watch it play out. I think he'll go the typical politician route and follow through on some low hanging fruit, maybe try a big ticket item or two, and then blame everyone but himself when it all fails. Money talks, bull shit walks. Once he figures out the actual finances behind his nonsense he'll point the finger at everyone but himself, Socialism, and his party.

Now watch this idiot prove me wrong and turn NYC into something a billionaire orphan can't save.

I think he'll place the blame on the governor for not approving the financial changes he needs to carry out his agenda. Then he'll make a move for her seat so he can finally deliver on the things he promised.

Even the Democratic Party wasn't thrilled about Mandami. Doesn't much matter now.

How long will it take for people to start fleeing NYC in numbers that matter? Ditto for significant businesses? How long before private grocery stores and bodegas become a thing of the past? Will the remaining people in NYC vote this dude out next time? Or double down? How much will Boston, Chicago, Alanta and other major cities gain from NYC's loss?

I need to start an office pool.

I've said it before, but I think that flight from blue states and cities into red states is a feature, not a bug, for the Democrats.

1) they get rid of red voters, so their hold on their blue areas is even more secure
2) they move blue voters of means (i.e. rich Democrats) into red areas, where they move not for political reasons but for economic reasons, and they bring their voting patterns and their money with them. This turns red states purple then blue.

Either way, they win.

You would think the financial havoc inflicted on California by a socialist and what will, undoubtably, be a ginormous shitshow in NYC would serve as an example of what not to do. Unfortunately, I think you're right. We're already getting the "your library is so small" and "why don't you have more services for homeless people" and the "living wage" arguments popping up down here form the CA/blue state refugees.

Some people simply will not see what they do not want to see.

My area has a lot of transplants and transients. A local town, Cary, they say means "Containment area for relocated yankees," and they're not wrong. Informally just chatting people up, about one in four or five actually buy into the southern way of life and dig it, the others definitely want to turn our area into a southern version of wherever it is from whence they came.

The only thing keeping North Carolina remotely red is the rural areas, anywhere more than a county or two outside of an interstate. But it won't be long until the interstate corridors have enough blue to overcome it.

I've said it elsewhere - when you shit in the river in New York or LA - somebody downstream in Oklahoma is going to get dysentery...

This is what "we the people" have been asking for during the last three generations
...now we've got it

My daughter, despite my best efforts, is quite liberal. Maybe I failed as a father, I don't know, but I kept her off the pole and out of jail so I'll take that W.

Recently we had a conversation about Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism. To her credit and my pride, she will seek out other opinions outside of an echo chamber. Once in a blue moon I will change her mind.

The other night she's going on about how great Socialism is, the theory and everything, so I let her finish. I asked, how are you paying for this? Who will be in charge? What is their moral character, do you trust them to be uncorruptible, and do you know anyone fitting the bill willing to be elected? She didn't have answers and I pointed out that until she does the discussion is moot because she can't answer how to implement this Socialist utopia for the people.

These aren't even far right talking points. This is basic math.

Good luck NYC.

Have you forgotten that modern day liberals are very comfortable stating that math is racist? A bigoted system based on a biased social construct designed to support the patriarchy?

...c'mon man

“If a person is not a liberal when he is twenty, he has no heart; if he is not a conservative when he is forty, he has no head.’"

My go to question is " which socialist model would you adopt?".

I'm not too worried about NYC. I'll be there hanging out in January enjoying the pizza, and carry-out mixed drinks. This dude will come and go, I doubt he'll pull much of any of his plans.

If they tax people making over $1M/yr it might bring in about $3.2B from about 33,000 people with an ave. income of $4.8M. Great! MTAs budget alone was $19.29B in 2024... Most of those high earners chose to live there anyhow depsite the 50% tax rates, plenty "live" there and own homes in other states with less taxes already.

My favorite part: Trump is "trying to amass power" during his 2nd term. Just by trying to force states to uphold Federal law and bring back some manufacturing. This dude is going to make busses free, divest from America's ally Israel despite that being federally illegal, and open up grocery stores? Sounds like a huge increase in power for a mayor. Nobody wants to talk about that though.

NYS would never vote this guy as Governor.
