Feds are not obligated to fund a state activation. If Walz activates the Guard to do whatever nonsense he's thinking about, can the Feds pull funding for the MNARNG/ MNANG?
Feds are not obligated to fund a state activation.
They typically do as a courtesy, but the state is obligated, Waltz owns it.
Feds have to fund Basic Training, AIT, AT and UTA's.I understand that, I'm talking about Federal funding in general.
I genuinely don't know the answer as to what the Feds can withhold. Sure, MN pays out of hide for the activation, but say money for...vehicle maintenance or "dual use" sustainment and training funding gets yanked. "That pot of money for your flight hours? Gone." sort of example.
Ex, mid 90's, SF Command developed a certification process. 19th Group refused to play using the Guard Card.
I remember that one. I think our cert eval year was 98, but it could have been 97. As explained to us it had to be done every three years but we only did it once.
19th going to Cobra Gold while 20th had home station ATs, JRTC, or a few JCETs is mildly irritating.
So what about logistics, food, ammo, parts, and fuel? Does each state have it's own contingency stash separate from the feds control? Now this is an interesting topic.Feds have to fund Basic Training, AIT, AT and UTA's.
Anything out of state is discretionary.

MG Davis withheld their COBRA GOLD funding.
Reverse Guard Card.
They relented. LOL.
Same process, NGB doesn't have to release funding for ops or exercises.
Trump can also Federalize the Guard (LBJ did that with the AR Guard when desegregation was being blocked in Little Rock, Arkansas ).
Part of the annual budget. So what about logistics, food, ammo, parts, and fuel? Does each state have it's own contingency stash separate from the feds control? Now this is an interesting topic.
I guess it was only a matter of time…
Defense Department says military newspaper Stars and Stripes must eliminate 'woke distractions'
The Pentagon said Thursday that it is changing the independent military newspaper Stars and Stripes so it concentrates on “reporting for our warfighters” and no longer includes “woke distractions.”
That message, in a social media post from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s spokesman, is short on specifics and does not mention the news outlet’s legacy of independence from government and military leadership. It comes a day after The Washington Post reported that applicants for jobs at Stars and Stripes were being asked what they would do to support President Donald Trump’s policies.
Back during the DOGE fed layoff period, I remember making a comment about the administration trying to move so fast that they'd functionally create more problems than benefits.
This feels very similar. I'm not an expert on air assests, but there's gotta be at least a few AC-130s or reapers available instead of a plane disguised as a civilian aircraft.
wait.. what are you even saying here?
