“Backcountry Lawman” by Bob H Lee is an interesting book. Its about Florida state game wardens/marine patrol. These are officers from the agency known as the FWC (Florida Wildlife conservation Commission). If your interested in man-tracking, boat chases, counter-poaching stakeouts and some rural Florida history than I would highly recommend it. I've had a chance to work with a few of these officers while with the park service and I feel that the book covered some of the typical personalities well.

@Dienekes - I own two translations of it and the "new translation" is a much more enjoyable read. On Amazon it's the one with the red bird on the cover. Not sure if your school requires a specific translation though.

Actually picked that one up for myself. I remember seeing that edition on Amazon though, and if the one I have proves a little too dense, I'll pick up that one.

Started The Obstacle is the Way and put it down after a chapter or so. It reminded why I hate self-help type books. I thought it was crap.

Apologies, I should have mentioned that it is very self-helpy. It was "supposedly" written as a distillation from the main Stoic writers(Marcus Aurelius and Seneca) for the regular person that isn't interested in the Greek philosophy itself. Being that Stoicism is put forth mainly as a philosophy on how to live, I see how it comes across as a self-help book and he does write it in that kind of way.

Charlie Mike.. pretty good book, a little too much of a love story and not enough LRPing though.

I got Team of Teams by General McChrystal and Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS by Joby Warrick for Christmas. I started Black Flags and it's been good thus far. There's some interesting background info regarding Zarqawi, but that's about as far as I've read.

I just got this book for Christmas called Unflinching: The making of a Canadian Sniper by Jody Mitic. It's really interesting, he was in the reserve regiment in the next town over from me before joining the Regular Force and going to Bosnia then Afghanistan.

Jody is all around an excellent man. He's doing good for the world and his community.

From a US Military perspective - it's just ironic that his name is "Jody" and the running head on the book state "It makes you proud Jody is a Canadian"

Like I said, Ironic in the US military... I'm just wondering if it's the same Jody I met at a function a couple of years ago, stellar dude if it is.

Hahaha. When I was first scrolling down, I thought, "WTF?". Then I saw the rest of the book cover.

Just finished reading The Guerrilla Factory The Making of Special Forces Officers, The Green Berets by Tony Schwalm. I really enjoyed this one. Next up is 13 Hours which I picked up last night and Get Selected whenever it comes in the mail.

"Dark Summit: the True Story of Everest's Most Controversial Season" by Nick Heil. I've read "Into Thin Air", and several ohers. I'd like to see how this work stands up against the rsest.

This year I have read some pretty great books.

Danger Close by Steve Call - was a great read on TACPs in Iraq and Afghanistan.

13 Hours: The inside account of what really happened By Mitchell Zuckoff - Great book for some insight on the events of Benghazi.

The Only Thing Worth Dying For by Eric Blehm - Amazing book on ODA 574 and their mission to link up with a potential presidential candidate.

Currently I am reading Deadly Blue: Battle Stories of the US Air Force Special Operations Command by Fred Pushies. Right now it is pretty slow going describing the structure, history and capabilities.

We get the irony up here. ;-)

He could be the same guy, I know he is still heavily involved in speaking at events in the community when he can.

13 Hours is a great book. Apolitical, factual, unemotional. Really enjoyed it.

Right now reading Roosevelt's Centurions: FDR & the Commanders He Led to Victory in World War II by Joseph Persico. According to Kindle I am 16% through. Dec 7 has not happened yet, and so far the book has done a remarkable job in the politics behind mobilizing the nation vis-a-vis war-footing and the politics behind the appointments of Marshal, Leahy, King, Stimson, and Knox.

Saints, Scholars, & Schizophrenics: Mental Illness in Rural Ireland

Reading it for school, it's pretty decent.
