What Are You Currently Reading?

I just finished Alice in Chains: The Untold Story by David de Sola. Pretty good book and insight into the band. Of course it focuses on Layne Staley's self-destruction via heroin, but delves into the band, the Seattle music scene from the mid to late-80's, and just how many damn junkies died or nearly died.

Good book and worth picking up if you're into that type of history.

I'm currently reading something totally different, but have Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge by Mark Yarm to read at some point this year.

Just finished this, Legend: The Incredible Story of Special Forces Sergeant Roy Benavidez's Heroic Mission to Rescue a Special Forces Team Caught Behind Enemy Lines

Cannot offer enough praise to this book, about an incredible man, and Medal of Honor recipient. (long past due)

There is a whole thread on the site dedicated to this book, please check it out:
Review - Legend (the tale of Roy Benavidez)

Can I buy this book from you?! haha or trade some cigars ha ha

I'd just give it to you, but I purchased via iTunes. Regarding the cigar trade, I've got some pretty cool/rare stuff. Always interested in a potential trade!
(if up for it, take it to PM or better yet the cigar thread so that we can get some more action over there!)

Have a book from the 80s and tried to get into it half a dozen times but going to give it another try today Why we were in Vietnam by Norman Podhoretz. His other titles were The Present Danger and Breaking Ranks: A Political Memoir to name a couple. Anyone read it or know of the author?

Moshe Dayan: Story of My Life

I read this when it was first published after the Yom Kippur War but just recently bought a new hard-bound copy. Israel has turned out more than its share of outstanding warriors, and he's close to the top of the list.

Back from the Custer Battlefield and continuing my extensive immersion in Israeli warfare. Now reading Gideon's Spies; The Secret History of the Mossad by Gordon Thomas. This is the 7th edition revised and updated last year to include the rise of ISIS.

It's a good companion to the Dayan book which was published before much of this was declassified. It's also got some amusing stories about Mossad listening in on Monica Lewinski's phone sex conversations with Bill Clinton.

The accounts of Mossad assassin Rafi Eitan are fascinating. He took part in the Adolf Eichman kidnapping and also tracked down those responsible for the Munich massacre of Israeli Athletes, killing them in very creative ways...and scaring the piss out of his next victims by publishing their obituaries in their local paper and sending their families condolence cards and flowers prior to killing them. Bwaaaahaaaaaa! :D

I read a couple books about the Mossad, By Way of Deception, and another I can't recall. One of them talked about how easy it was to spy in the US and talked about spying on US politicians. Your comment about Clinton reminded me of that.

Regarding hunting down the terrorists who killed the athletes, I enjoyed the movie "Munich." I would like to read more about Operation Wrath of God.

Last night, I finished Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and today I started on another book of his, Darkness, Take My Hand. I was hooked on Shutter Island and finished it in two sittings, and I'm already on p. 161 of the second book since starting it this morning. Lehane has to be my favorite fiction author, his crime thrillers are one of a kind.

Currently reading Flags Of Our Fathers by James Bradley. James Bradley is the son of the Navy Corpsman that helped raise the flag on Mount Suribachi. He goes in depth to the lives of the men who raised the flag. Great read.

Just finished Iron Coffins by U-Boat Captain Herbert Werner. Wonderful read. I was fascinated by it. A must for anyone interested in U-Boat operations in WWII.

Concur. An excellent read from someone who took part in The Battle of The Atlantic.

You might enjoy Spies Against Armageddon. Inside Israels Secret Wars. by Raviv & Melman. Not bad, but keep in mind that most books like this tend to preserve their reputations a little.

Thanks, I'll look that one up. The one I'm reading now hasn't hesitated to point out Mossad's flaws and some major embarrassing screw-ups, like assassinating innocent people by mistake. The ruthlessness is enviable in many ways, but it does tend to get out of control.
