What is Patreon and why should I care ?

Youtube gun channels are being demonitized due to Youtube taking a passive aggressive anti-gun stance. In order to afford running a gun entertainment channel (ammo, new firearms, range equipment) most of these youtubers have turned to Patreon, essentially crowdfunding the Youtuber so they can keep making content.

Now because Patreon is showing political bias as well, they are basically creating a “Not politically biased Patreon”.

There’s other reasons people are being demonitized and it doesn’t all fall on gun channels, but they are a big part of it due to the cost of running them.

Like I said there are a lot of reasons for this happening, but that’s probably why a firearms website is losing it over this.

This is about the best explanation I've seen. Even channels devoted to mountain biking and video games are moving to Patreon. Better monetization and less influence over their content.

Patreon is pretty much a way a content provider can make that content, and get a higher level (or any level, in some cases of discrim/etc) of compensation for the content they provide.

This can be from sharing videos they make of guns, to videos they make of fabricating cosplay, to videos of them flaggelating themselves with objects provided at large. Or large, in some cases. It's all up to the provider.

I know some webcomic artists that use it, some cosplayers, some pornographers, and all sorts of other people. I have thought of it myself, but honestly I don't even know what more I could personally do with my web presence regarding the trucking I do.

I thought this was going to be about Patron tequila.<sigh> But I learn something new every time I log in here.
