Why guys leave special ops?

Based on my understanding of the special ops community, gaining access is no easy task and requires a strong commitment and desire on the part of the individual. Im not in the special ops community so maybe I romanticize the ideal, but given the training, community, and professed enjoyment about what they do; what is it that makes guys want to leave all of it for civilian life? Obviously everyone has their own reasons, but are there trends i.e many leave because of injury or desire for a better family life? Is it a scenario where the grass is not always greener and guys are tired of dealing with BS?

* Im in the the Army, but not affiliated with the special ops community

Some guys get tired, some leave for family reasons, some have other goals they want to pursue, some get fed up with leadership, some want to pursue opportunities for better money, and yes some get hurt. I think those cover the main ones, and many leave because of a combination of the above, but everyone is an individual and they ultimately have their own reasons for going the route they go.

It's no different than anything else. They are still humans, and humans all leave the things they love for reason typical of anyone. For example, you'll here guys speak of bureaucratic bullshit. The same shit happens in the civilian world, in the big army, and anywhere else you go. I was a police officer for six years, of which four of them were spent on the SWAT team. Did I love my job? Sure... but spineless leadership and bureaucratic bullshit convoluted the experience. People placed in leadership were more worried about the next promotion, they forgot that they were leaders and became simply supervisors. Otherwise known as a "yes" man. So I, being a man, made a decision and packed my shit and enlisted for a place that I felt the word leadership would not get lost in translation. Just an example.

I left because I was lonely in life. I had no relationships, nobody to come home to, I never really got a chance to meet anybody to share a life/love with. I felt pretty empty all the time.

That was six years ago. Nothing has changed. So maybe it was a mistake.

You just haven't found the right person. A buddy of mine did the same from a certain unit up here. Met up with an Ex and eventually got back in the regular Army. Haven't seen him this happy in a long time.

Thats because you were in 3/75, where they replaced girls with booze and video games :ROFLMAO:

I think a lot of dudes leave SOF for the same reason they got there in the first place. A lot of type-a go-getters have a sort of systemic restlessness or discontentment that leaves them constantly striving for something more. Its why we do things to the extremes.

I've grappled with it myself and thrown around the idea of getting out. I found myself momentarily content about 8 months ago and decided to reenlist indef- luckily I'm still happy with where I found myself.

The Harley and Ex Wife both eventually hurt you.

At some point in your career everyone has to trade in their rifle for a desk. This is where a lot of guys punch out. It happens sooner for some than others but for the most part it's inevitable.
