Your 2024 Presidential Election Thread

Who do you think picks our food bro. Honestly?

Immigrant farm workers make up like 3/4 hires farmworkers in the US. It isn’t racist to present factual data.

USDA ERS - Farm Labor.

Watch This 'VICE' Episode About Alabama's Harsh Anti-Immigration Laws

Never said we weren't reliant on migrant farm workers, most of them are here legally. The millions that came across the border during this administration are not in the fields picking your lettuce. Also, in your same data, 2/3 of all farmworkers are family members of the owner, so I guess family farms is still a thingish.

Mexicans can apply for a US work visa at locations in Mexico. And enter the US legally. The Visa costs $205. Or...you can pay a Coyote $2000 to let you swim across the Rio Grande and take your chances.

One of the reasons food prices are going up, and will continue to go up, is not because farm laborers are getting kicked out but because farmland is disappearing at staggering rates.

I have a USDA-registered farm in an area that used to be almost entirely agricultural. Every day, I see more orange groves being ripped up and burned, cattle ranches, food and hay-producing fields turning into subdivisions and shopping centers almost overnight.

Children of long-time farm families are GTFO of agriculture occupations because they've seen their parents and grandparents saddled with back-breaking work with little reward. So when the parents die, the land goes to the next developer.

Over 140,000 Farms Lost in 5 Years

Net Farm Income in 2024 Forecast to Be Down 25% from Last Year

The US is losing almost 2-million acres of farmland every year. Almost 14-million acres gone since 2015.

Bill Gates is gobbling up farmland almost anywhere, I doubt he's leasing it out to be farmed.

They also have to eat. And they are an additional burden on everything from the DMV to the medical system.

Let's shift the discussion slightly. The election is over and the people have spoken. For anyone reading this thread, what are 3 or so policies you would like to see implemented in the Trump/Vance administration? They don't have to be in any particular order, and no explanation is necessary. And you can make adjustments down the road.

For me:

1) A return to the rule of law; end selective enforcement and, more importantly, selective non-enforcement of our laws.
2) An immediate end to all government-supported DEI and race-based restrictions/quotas/preferences
3) Stop giving support to people who hate us or do not sufficiently support our national interests. End financial support to organizations like the Taliban, Hamas, UNRWA. Re-evaluate our relationships with organizations like NATO and the UN.

That is wild, considering Trump is talking about deporting their parents. Hopefully that doesn’t happen to your son’s friend.

Not likely. They should be at the end of the list. 2 American kids and a successful business. Too many petty criminals and recent arrivals to round up first.

Obviously my ideas are not totally conservative, but I think could be implemented by a conservative government and recieve high populist support.

1. Enact an amnesty bill similar to the 1986 Regan bill, providing pathways to citizenship for those like what @BlackSmokeRisinG described in his post. Follow through with hard sanctions against businesses that employ illegal aliens, thereby removing the economic incentive for migration. This plan would increase taxpayers base AND likely add to the conservative voter base.

2. Rehaul the FDA and other food agencies to remove corporate interests. Better regulate what is allowed in our foods.I know RFK jr. has talked about fixing our food supply, but the supply will not get better without hard limits on what companies can do/use in production.

3. Provide a framework for American companies to reduce corporate tax rate to 0%, through reinvestment into American employees and facilities. This would help to encourage growth AND keep it within our borders.

4. Stealing a page from Sanders; Create a 21st Century Civilan Conservation Corps to repair our infastructure and provide apprenticeship opportunities for young people. Treat it like the military and have a 2-3 year contract.

------

These aren't fine tuned positions, so like anything they'd differ in details between R/D governments, but I do think they could be implemented by either.

If only one day our campaign systems could be "fixed"

Although - after looking at the list of democrat donors I can easily see how they collected a billion dollars, spent a billion and 20 million, lost the race, and are now looking for a way to pay their bills...

...it seems perfectly fitting that Kamala could find herself in that position when she has "donors" with names like:
"US Government"
"US Dept of Veterans Affairs"
"US Dept of Defense"
"US Dept of Health and Human Services"

It makes plenty of sense now - a cabal of crooked people that run an organization that routinely loses millions of dollars donated millions of dollars to a shitty person that is an even shittier politician - and they somehow overspent - as if they were administering the US budget .
THEY OVER SPENT OUR FUCKING MONEY ON A FAILED POLITICAL CAMPAIGN TO INSTALL A MOTHER FUCKING DIVERSITY HIRE AS OUR PRESIDENT.

How is that even legal?
...I'm a veteran
...I work for the DOD
...in the US Government

In fact, isn't it illegal for me to show up in my "Hey I am here on behalf of my government job" and campaign for a politician seeking public office ?

How in the mother of extra large three topping with extra cheese pizza fuck can that even be legal?
Who wrote that fucking check from DOD?
...was it that asshole Bob in accounting?
...was it that cock sucker that checks ID's at the door?
Who?
Who is the mother fucker giving away my tax money to support a partisan political figure?

WHAT.IN.THE.ACTUAL.FUCK.

I'm outraged.
The real kind of outrage.
I'm not talking about the kind of outrage that you get from those silly pink hair vagina hat wearing sons-a-bitches.
NO.
I'm talking about no shit, thinking for myself - why is any "US Department of Whateverthefuck" donating millions and millions of dollars to a partisan campaign effort - type outrage !!!

YOUVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME

Especially when that partisan political figure is near the top of the executive branch.

My three are faily broad, with the first two mostly centered around the rule of law:

1. Return to the Constitution as driving the role of the Federal government; significantly smaller, more efficient Federal government.
This is multifaceted - reduce/eliminate laws, agencies, and funds. Eliminate the nonsense, like DEI and related programs. The result allows taxpayers to keep a much higher portion of their hard-earned money.

2. The virtual elimination of rule by Executive Order. This should be saved for true emergency situations only, everything else should flow through Congress as designed. Success here results in a slower, more normalized, and more deliberate Federal government with reduce influence from fringe viewpoints.

3. Prioritize American greatness. In addition to prioritizing National Security (illegal immigration falls under this umbrella for me) and Foreign Policy issues, this includes common sense things, like incentives to educate, innovate (think Space X, Starlink) and manufacture in the U.S. with specific focus on STEM-related initiatives. Success sees a renewal in American industry, greater individual responsibility, and prosperity across all economic groups.

Especially when that partisan political figure is near the top of the executive branch.

It could be Vice President Harris, President Elect Trump, a US Senator, a State Senator, or the Secretary of the Homeowners association.
There just seem to be certain things that money from the public coffers should NEVER
EVER
EVEREVEREVER
...be spent on.

Just my two cents.

It's not those organizations donating, but it is the people who work for them.

Fed law requires donations over $200 bucks to be itemized, which must include Employer and occupation of individuals who contribute.

So (using links at @AWP posted) at most ~5,900 people employeed by the DOD donated $200 to Harris, not the DOD.

Trump got about ~2,300 who gave over $200.

Through CFC though, right? Because when you write an individual check it wouldn't come up as DoD, it would come up at Cookie.

I understand the process - but shouldn't it say "Bob from Accounting" as the contributor and not "The Dept of Defense"
When everyone was up in arms about Black Rifle Coffee donating to 'ActBlue' it was easy enough to find the employer as well as the contributor - that's how you know that Donna voted for Biden and Toby voted for Trump.

That is why I am doubled over in rage - there should be NOWHERE where you see a "personal" donation of any amount - recorded as any amount with a government agency listed as the contributor. That's part of my understanding of why its reportable in the first place - so there cant be an underhanded effort at 'corporate packaging' of donations by organizing a concerted effort at the organization and just having numerous people send donations under the mantle of "private donation"
-and that goes for the 2,300 folks that donated to the Trump campaign as well.

Just my opinion.
However - that is a suitable explanation that has successfully abated my outrage for now.

My understanding of CFC is that it's for charity donations, not campaigns.

I've never donated to a campaign, let alone over $200, so if somebody on the board has maybe they can provide clarification on how the data is tracked.

This is an example of the form to track contributions.
