California Banning the sale of Gas Powered Automobiles

Only 14k? What is here commute to work? 5 miles? That seems amazing because I feel like you've had it for three years?

Leases on Electric cars are wild cheap and it makes no sense other than marketing.

It is a 2023 and her drive according to Google maps is 4.2 miles round trip.

I get it with the "no spares," they're so rarely used that it might be worth it to save the weight/space/expense.

I drive Jeeps. I've toted around a massive fullsize spare tire and had a Hi-Lift jack on my hood or in the truck bed for something like twelve years. Wheeled some of the Jeeps pretty good. Number of times I've need to use that Hi-Lift on my own rig? Zero. The spare only got put on when it was time to rotate the tires.

In fact, there was a time when I had a "rear tire delete" and left the spare in the garage. Never needed it. Not once.

...and that's great, until you actually need one.

I pretty much think the guy, like his cars, is highly overrated across the board.

Teslas were cutting edge until everyone caught up, now they are gimmicky and dont feel like cars.

They are so cheap because they roll the tax savings into the lease cost. So it takes like 7500 off the total cost of the lease. I also think all the foreign companies are trying to offload their EVs before tariffs rake them, and the tax credits disappear. But we got an M car, for 500 down and 490/month. It is an 80k car. Just crazy how cheap they can be gotten for. Mercedes is leasing one for under $100/month supposedly, but I don’t know what model.

So, like a fire extinguisher?

I've actually needed a fire extinguisher so I always have one of those.

Tire update because it was asked earlier: According to the tire guys the tread wear is worse than I thought (doesn't surprise me but they are also far from being bald) and are 2k miles overdue for replacement.

That's 12k miles.

They quoted a new set at $1580 which is cheaper than the dealership. Replace them every 12k miles regardless of tire wear.

It's all that extra weight. Did you get the special EV tires?

Haze yourself for thinking I don't know about the weight differential. Better yet? Embrace Mondays.

She hasn't bought the tires yet and that's between her and her paycheck. My future Tesla support is limited to uploading random sounds for her horn and door locks. I hope she likes Sam Kinnison's "OH, OOOOHHHHH!!!!!" for her horn.

Elon announced today that beginning Feb 14, Tesla will only offer FSD as a monthly subscription. With that announcement, any possible interest I may've had in owning one was put to rest. That was easily the most compelling reason to own a Tesla.

As an aside, this new era we've entered into where everything is SaaS is maddening. I can't wait until we this whole trend goes away as well.

They also have to be flat bed towed, which is a pita.
They don't. Any modern wrecker has dollies to be able to pick up a car in park or otherwise with wheels that cannot roll for whatever reason. The amount of Porsches, Subarus, Teslas, bla de blah that I towed without a flatbed trailer numbers in the hundreds.

Tesla just says flatbed because like every manufacturer with an all wheel drive vehicle and especially one that doesn't have the ability to actually have a true neutral, if some wheels roll but others don't it's bad. On Subarus they have a differential and it's spinning a bunch of stuff up to that. On a proper 4x4 if you can't put the T-case in neutral it'[s going to try to spin the front tires. On audis etc it's the same with a transfer case differential. Even on my 4XE Rubicon (and basically every other Wrangler variant) it's a specific set of steps to be able to wheel lift or flat tow, and if you cannot do it underneath the vehicle or gain access to inside the vehicle to do it, then it's dollies or a flatbed.
