They still walk among us here in the US, and many in California.
My state is no tropical paradise but I was never locked down or forced to wear a mask.
California COVID Wave Sparks Renewed Mask Debate
Ironically, this sort of came up over the weekend during a conversation about two of my wife's cousins. Both are a bit off, but one has gone off the deep end, found more vertical space, and leapt from it again. Flat earth, Masons worship the devil, etc. off of the deep end. My daughter was kind of beating him up in the conversation closing with some comment along the lines of "This is what happens when you're afraid and ignore science and experts" and so on.
I know this will shock some, but I'm opinionated and will vomit forth unsolicited thoughts. I told her this is years of distrust about the government and "science" which culminated in all things COVID. Climate change/ green energy/ recycling remains a cult despite piles of information to the contrary and then COVID really set new standards. Years of conspiracies about the government which came to light as 100% true and media that's corrupt and untrustworthy culminated in our COVID response.
We built this distrust, we fed it, we allowed it to happen, and now we want to bash anyone who doesn't fall in line with whatever any of us believe in these days?
For example, flat earth is stupid and debunked over and over, but I can see why people reject a sphere. Some non-believers of ANY topic are most assuredly crazy, but they aren't necessarily wrong. If we are ever going to move past COVID anything, we collectively need to recognize how we arrived at this point.
And we'll never do that, so people will view others are crazy or stupid or whatever. Sure, maybe some are, but some are simply over it all because we're tired of dancing to this tune, this broken record of lies and deceit. The traditional institutions we're supposed to trust are dead and gone and right, wrong, or other we're on our own with whatever information is available.
