Game of Thrones thread -

Slightly disappointing and full of plot holes (not even counting the stategic/tactical mistakes). I get that it had to be someone like Arya with a ninja move (or Melisandre with magic), as the NK was too strong for anyone to take on in a 1-on-1 fight... but she shouldn't have just teleported out of nowhere when they were all surrounded by WWs. They could've at least made it so she assumed the identity of a WW herself as a means to get that close.

Or maybe...

really? The dragons should have gone first. Told the wife, well most are going to get killed. Let’s see I have dragons that are like artillery or a bunch of guys on horseback with tiki torches.

You've only got two aircraft left and you're fighting a dude who brought one down with a spear, salvaged it, rearmed it and launched it against you. Do you risk losing another one in the opening minutes of battle and then have to face two zombie dragons? Or do you hold them in reserve while you send in the more expendable and replaceable humans and horses? You still have to face Cersei's Army if you get out of this one. You're gonna want those dragons, rested, ready with full gas tanks.

Besides if the Dothrakis had had some rudimentary fire sword training they might have been able to actually kill some of the zombies instead of getting their asses handed to them in the first 15 second of the contact. Jesus, look what Beric Dondarian could do with a flaming sword. You can't just hand a new weapon to an illiterate savage and expect him to develop lethal skill with it on a galloping horse during a 20 second night attack.

This. You have two weapons at your disposal that are adept at mowing down massive amounts of bodies (which - shy of assassinating the Night King - is something you need to accomplish). What do you send in? Hint: it isn't mounted cavalry.

As an aside, the Mongols (who the Dothraki are based on) were masters of using maneuver on complex terrain, particularly coupled with deception/obscuration. Playing them as "hey diddle diddle, straight up the middle" is a pretty insulting to the tactical mastery of Genghis Khan's legacy. But torches in the dark is a pretty cool visual, so fuck actually thinking this through...

@Polar Bear Wait a minute...refresh my memory, who won?

They knew their only shot to survive was to kill the Night King. They were never going to beat the white walkers head on. That's why they had to bait him. The dragons were going to fry him. They had to pivot when that didn't work out but their plan more less worked as expected.

Arya OP please nerf.

What is her K / D ratio now, about 1 million to 0 ? this makes her the deadliest individual in all of Westeros.

I agree that while it was overall a great episode, the conclusion to this several seasons long buildup was rather underwhelming.

Lyanna taking out the giant was dope though. Too bad she dies. Would have liked her to live through everything.

One of the best sequences of scenes I've seen in any movie: When the Red Woman lights the Dothraki swords and they ride off, and from a distance, a thousand points of light on the battle plain. And then the lights go out. There's not an epic battle scene in recent years, not even in LOTR, that can top that for drama.

I was like Holy Mother of Buddha.

I agree, and it was dark in the most GoT way. Wished there were more moments like that.

However I have to fully agree with Polar Bear. It was a cool scene but only done for dramatic effect-

That massed cav charge had no strategic value whatsoever and they just wasted thousands of men. Might have been useful if they were kept in reserve idk just saying lol

Please, sir, curb that cynicism...We're engaged in a serious and important military discussion about the various tactical options that could have been implemented during a battle between dragons and zombies.
