Israel and Iran

Kent was on Shawn Ryan a few months ago explaining how much of a threat Iran was. Something changed, something happened.
The "you can't fire me, I quit" angle that other members brought up earlier is also plausible. If that were the case, quitting in this manner allows him to go out a martyr and preserve political options, especially as a member of the anti-Trump and anti-Israel right.

I saw him face to face a few months ago. I'm a nobody, not claiming to know him or even meet him, but I knew his presence meant something big was going down. Just recognized him from SRS. The U.S. had a couple other things going on, but it was after the 12 day bombing excursion so I have to think he already knew the current events were coming last fall.

Does anybody remember anything specific about what he said about Iran on SRS? The only takeaways I recall were Iran wants us dead and there were thousands of known jihads that crossed the southern border.

Apparently it is in-American to have an opinion that is not pro Israel.

I personally find it abhorrent you can’t even have a negative opinion on the government of Israel without being anti-Semitic.

When their neighbors continuously try to wipe them off the map, then yes. Do I feel like they owe us A LOT for the USS Liberty? That debt remains unpaid.
The point? You missed it or just wanted to argue or whatever.

I don't care that he was wrong about Iran because I think he was wrong about Iran. Again, my point is that if he was so much of a threat they threw him out of briefings, he was a known leaker for months, why wasn't he on charges or at least fired? Instead they retained him as head of the NCTC and banned him from briefings? That doesn't track. He was either a threat to national security or he wasn't. If he was, why wasn't he charged and/ or fired? That's what doesn't make sense. Either members of the admin knew and did nothing or he didn't leak info, because their actions do not support the former.
Sure. Being argumentative. But in another thread we talked about raising children to be independent thinkers. The truth is always in the middle and a lot of people in this thread are rushing to "OMG Kent is a saint because he served and lost his wife, the administration has to be all wrong, this must have been a camelbreakig straw yadayada."

Idk what the truth is, based on comments from the administration and members of the Gang of Eight. Kent hasn't been in these briefings for months. He was probably given a chance to bow out gracefully and be reassigned to another role like Kristi Noem has been. Clearly he somehow found that option untenable. However consider his resignation letter. Consider his alignment with Tucker Carlson who is aligned with Nick Fuentes. He's showing more conspiracy theory nonsense than critical thought. But those are the tea leaves I'm reading.

He served in combat and his wife was KIA in combat. For that he has my respect. But his resignation letter also ticks away at the respect I had for him. But it sounds like no one on here knows him or is even within three degrees of him.

But you said I missed your point, happy for you to break it down in plain English so I understand your position.

The "you can't fire me, I quit" angle that other members brought up earlier is also plausible. If that were the case, quitting in this manner allows him to go out a martyr and preserve political options, especially as a member of the anti-Trump and anti-Israel right.

It's pretty convenient that there is this whole apparatus on the right that he can now join and grift with. He doesn't even have to join the Left.

He's got a point

I think you you can be anti war without being anti Trump or anti Israel.

Seems like the venn diagram between the three have a lot of overlap though. It's kind of fashionable to be all of these things. Guy lost is wife and you can't blame him for just not being about it without a really clear existential threat.

I've always been America first, not MAGA. I agree with people like Joe Kent, MTG, Joe Rogan, and Tucker Carlson. They too still praise Trump for a lot of things he does, but disagree with war in Iran.

But, there are contracts to be had and the military industrial complex must roll on.

People need to realize that when you are prior SOF with a bunch of deployments - your politics are pretty much beyond reproach.

You cannot be wrong for a number of reasons...
..."you've been there"
..."you've done that"
...you are a "veteran"
...you have lost friends and loved ones

If you tick off a few of these boxes, you cannot be challenged in a public forum because you have "earned" your bullshit.

It doesn't matter if your personal positions and comments with other conflict with previously held positions and comments; besides, people are allowed to change their minds. I used to like my coffee black, then I liked it with cream and sugar, now I like it with oatmilk and sugar-free vanilla.
Joe is entitled to his own private opinion - even if he IS in a position of public trust during a time of national conflict.
...some people say that cucumbers taste better pickled

It's like that guy with the eye patch - it doesn't matter that his politics are for shit - he's a VETERAN
...he is a former Navy SEAL

C'mon man - you CANNOT call out veterans when they do shit that doesn't make any sense - because, you know, "the thing"
I can't WAIT until I get issued my veteran "Get Out of Jail -for Saying and Doing Silly Shit- Free card" because believe me - I have some seriously fucked up shit I'd like to say...
...but I can't
...because I'm not 'vet' enough
...yet
...but I'm working on it

Joe Kent only speaks The Truth™
and now he's played his vet card - discussion over

True, but, in his recent position, I believe Kent was likely a little more knowledgeable than most vets and to say he was banned from meetings sounds like a troll move to me.

IF Israel forced into this war, that should concern every American. Our foreign policy, economy, and lives were dictated by a third party? Questioning that isn't anti-Semitic, not questioning it is anti-American.

If we were forced into this war because of Israel-provided and manipulated intel I note the irony that was what the British did to get us to overthrow Mosaddegh in 1953 which led us to this mess today.....

I wonder if the Tripoli being sent was a need for more aircraft or to take possession of a few islands to provide security while they clear mines in the Straight?

I think having a MEU on station gives us a wide range of capabilities; in addition to the ones you mention, there are also NEO, humanitarian operations, CSAR, etc. Always good to have in one's back pocket.

"in his recent position" is the entire point (I think) - that I am trying to make with my empty, politically biased, right wing sycophant, sarcasm

He "was" in a position of public trust. Yet, he seemingly waited until he could squeeze "media impact" out of his resignation.

I spent a few days in the service of this nation - MANY of the people on this board spent a few days (maybe more) in the service of this nation.
...and it is just mt two cents that this - "cannot in good conscience support the ongoing thing" - is a bunch of horseshit

I remember having to wear an "Army Values" dog tag around my neck that oddly coincided with Bill Clinton sodomizing a government clerk - but I didn't just get to say "I cannot in good conscience support this ongoing conflict " in Bosnia, Haiti, Kosovo, or Kuwait becuase I didn't agree with him.
When Obama used a drone strike for the extra judicial killing of an American citizen - were "we the people" all OK with that?
Was everyone that served in Iraq and Afghanistan well after we realized that we had overstayed and outran our headlights - STILL OK- with serving?
...even AFTER it became mainstream that MAAAAYBE we used poor intel as an excuse to initiate hostilities?

How many of us left service because we couldn't "in good conscience" support the POTUS ??
How many of us chose to enter the private sector - free of the military industrial complex - when we realized that the defense industry was just in it for profit ??

"The ongoing war in Iran" didn't happen overnight - he didn't just get "trolled" a few days ago - we dropped bombs on their asses LAST YEAR - and yet, his conscience remained intact. Still he didn't have a battle with his principles until just recently and even then, it was a solid three weeks after we started destroying a force that HE HIMSELF has described as a threat. Now - suddenly - overnight - because he was trolled by the evil Orangeman - and because he "knows" that this isn't about national security - its about 'Israel bad' - because he said so. If he wants me to listen, he needs to come clean with the evidence that Israel is driving this train. Otherwise its just sensationalized talk that seems to be the typical setup for a run at elected office.

He can't change the past - either he has been telling everyone a lie about the threat - or he is telling a lie now. In short...

Fuck Joe Kent - he quit - he is no longer part of the effort, good or bad - he's got what he wanted - time to move on Joe - next slide....
