Aaaand, he's dead....
What do suppose makes someone dumb enough to do this?

So both of us were wrong?Or bringing it up to stir the pot. That was part of my post.

Dick Cheney hit the jackpot, but what did Dubya or Obama win?Sounds like he's just following the Bush and Obama Playbook of claiming to have won and then asking for help to win more.
This is also not a new war, this started in 1979 and 8 previous administration's have let it get worse. Including Trump's first term.
Looks like DRF-1 from Bragg headed to Iran.
So much for no new wars.
I saw this. Like the MEU earlier in the week, a bluff or threat you aren't willing to use is useless and makes you look weak. This is basic human psychology, not a pointed indictment of Trump, just basic "people doing people stuff."
I don't know where we are going with troops. My thinking is if we're going to commit troops it should be a metric shit ton, not penny packets of a few thousand. Even putting troops on Kharq is a major escalation.
I would be surprised if boots on the ground is a widely accepted position on this board, but who knows anymore?
I'm going wait and hope its a bluff. I'm not sure who in Iran we are negotiating with, but supposedly we are negotiating something with somebody...I saw this. I'd need to find a better article, but nothing has indicated that this is DRB, in fact I don't think we'd hear about it. My understanding is this unit was scheduled for a CENTCOM rotation. Could be wrong though. Articles I've seen say 1,500 Soldiers which is not many.Looks like DRF-1 from Bragg headed to Iran.

We ain't talking Grenada or Panama. Or even Iraq. That is a big ass country. Are we really thinking inserting a corps (as in multiple divisions and not Marine Corps) or two? I cannot believe that we are. I refuse to believe we are.
The MEU I get, it's a small Swiss army knife that can do a few things and kill people is just one of those things. But small forces in onesies and twosies I don't get and I don't like.
He apparently understands strategy well enough to maintain his job as SecWar.This highlights one of the criticisms of Hegseth that I think is valid; dude doesn't seem to understand higher level strategy.
This dude thinks that Stupid rules of engagement will keep us from beating Iran. Of course an MEU and DRF-1 can win the war, only if we let them kill everybody they see. No way that ever backfires.

I cant say for sure, but being a former Infantry officer, Hegseth may be listening to the folks who (he thinks) do know.I don't think that's the best argument because a counter could be Bondi and Patel understanding law and law enforcement well enough to keep their jobs. Biden had plenty of folks who clearly didn't understand their jobs, but maintained them regardless. Rumsfeld kept his job and I think we can all agree his understanding of strategy was poor.
