Super Sweet Movie Discussion Thread

I saw two movies in the theater recently. Both were unexpectedly pretty good.

1. The Outfit - really had no expectations going in, so it made this one easy to like. No one really notable in it (main character played the father on the civilian boat in "Dunkirk" - good actor). I'd call it a gangster film but the concept is different - literally everything on screen takes place inside a tailor shop. Done very well for what it is. Recommend 👍

2. Father Stu - again, wasn't sure what to think of this one going in, so I kept expectations pretty low. Marky Mark isn't really my favorite actor but he can be entertaining in a fairly narrow role. This one was outside his typical range but it worked. It won't win any Oscars but I enjoyed the film for what it was. Also, recommend 👍

Neither are necessarily really rush out to see in the theater but both are worth seeing. I think I also just enjoyed watching a movie somewhere other than my couch for a bit.

I bought tickets to opening weekend of Top Gun. Maybe Hollywood hype, but I am really surprised at the number of ‘verified’ Twitter movie reviewers who are saying this is one of the greatest sequels ever made.

I purchased 6 IMAX times for the family for the 26th...we're so excited!! But I can't believe I spent $180 for movie tickets. 😖

Any of you watch The King’s Man? (Prequel to the 2 Kingsman movies with Colin Firth)

I’ve heard very mixed reviews on this one. It’s either that tonight or Dead Pool again for the umpteenth time.

It's not a film I'd say I wasted money on when I saw it in theater, but it's also the type of film where I couldn't tell you a single character's name or remember any specific plot details/jokes.

It's a passable popcorn and beer movie, but that's about it.

I decided not to waste a great cigar night on a maybe. Put Eastwood’s “For a Few Dollars More” on instead. Have not seen it in years.

Anya Taylor-Joy...had never heard of her, but now I'm in love.

That aside, The Northman was fantastic. It was visually stunning, aside from some of the darker scenes, but that could be the projector since everyone seems to be digital nowadays. Kidman's performance was masterful.

I don't want to spoil it, so I can't speak of the film much, just that it didn't disappoint. Plenty of blood and gore as well as some interludes with the Seer.

Oh, you better like Alexander Skarsgård, this is his film. He is truly the Viking Berserker you imagine.

Worth seeing indeed.
The Northman was awesome...

This just in ….

Navy recruiters share simultaneous orgasm - Air Force recruiters release memo stating that they fly too….

I follow Ward Carroll on YouTube. He is a retired F-14 RIO and author, has worked for Naval Institute. He's pretty critical of military aviation movies (I think he has three vids on what's wrong/bad about Topgun). He saw this movie in NYC and said there are an equal amount of cringe-worthy moments, but it's the best military aviation movie, ever, with the best aerial cinematography.

I'm in.

But first I have to get past Downton Abby this Friday.

Saw Downton Abbey last night. Very much enjoyed it.

I like British television. I like British movies, generally. They can still write intelligent scripts and their actors can act rings around most of ours. My wife is a Downton Abbey fan. I haven't boarded the bus yet but may.

We were watching "Around the World in 80 Days" (the David Tennant version) but we never finished it. We're kind of getting turned off by the trend of each and every production having to address racism. I'm not a racist. I don't need the message every time I turn on the TV.

This looks entertaining.

A movie about SEALs? That's so fucking cool! I haven't seen one of those since like breakfast or something. No, that was the local weather report. Hard to keep track of all their sightings. "...high's in the upper 80's with sunset around 8:38PM. Quarter moon, low visibility for you boaters and SDV drivers out there."

Props to the screenwriters for including hatchets. Art imitates life yet again?
