Super Sweet Movie Discussion Thread

What half-wit takes a movie about Norse gods and a genetically mutated human being fighting in space serious?

a half-wit that doesn't understand the reasoning for the word serious.. also referencing the load of reviews lauding the movie for that exactly.

Good movie. But this reminds me how much I sometimes despise Hollywood and their ilk.

At the end of the original movie when ET and Elliot fly over the agents on the bike, they are carrying guns.

On the re-releases, Spielberg CGI’d the guns into walkie-talkies. Please

Same thing with the “Han shot first” debate in Star Wars. In the original 1977 version, Han shoots Greedo dead. In the 90’s Lucas went in after the fact and CGI’d Greedo shooting (first) from across a bar table and missing; then Han shoots back and kills Greedo.

Double please.

It was the original 80s E.T. version that we were served on cable, so no walkie talkies. A quick google says Spielberg regretted his changes and went back to recommending the original. The charm of these old movies for me is the retro vibe, the puppetry, and the simple messages that I feel still resonate with children today. And as a parent, the most disturbing thing wasn’t the guns, the penis breath or the terrorist reference, it was the mother leaving 10 year old Elliot home alone!

As for George Lucas and his tinkering...My read, once you got me looking into it more closely, was it’s less a Hollywood thing and more like a George Lucas thing... Spielberg was at least repentant. Apparently, Lucas made it difficult to get the originals too.

I saw The Disaster Artist over the weekend and it was fantastic . A solid comedy/parody about the making of The Room (2003). I would suggest having some background on Tommy Wiseau and The Room before seeing this movie so that you can truly appreciate what James Franco put together. I also thought it was pretty cool that James starred alongside his little brother Dave Franco.
