Ditto. There was a definite SJW black power theme that seemed to blame a buttload of cultural issues on the US and shit that happened 2-300 years ago. The other thing that annoyed me was the premise of Wakandan sleeper cells, in every section of our government, willing to carry out attacks on behalf of a foreign power.

Iran, Pakistan, and Russia would be proud of whoever presented the 'destroy from within' ideology in the film.

Costumes, fight scenes, and hot chicks are why I stayed close to the end, but the SJW derp is strong in this film. The critcs who rated this film highly were high or are a bunch of damn anti-American communists.

edit: To clarify for those who haven't seen the film, there is a blurb about colonialism early on in the film which lays down the premise for the 'justification' and 'reclamation' of historical artifacts which later manifests itself into something sinister.

Yeah killed off a franchise that is on track to be one of the highest grossing films of all time... they sure fucked that up...

You had no issue with the magical plants granting superpowers and the ultra rare metal that does everything, but sleeper cells is where you draw the line on plausibility?

Anti-American communists rated the film high? Well fuck. Guess that means 4/5 of my company are pinko commies. Myself included. Just call me Commissar.

With how political Disney is getting with it's films and messing up movie dynasties, aka 'The Last Jedi', I'm definitely hesitant to watch anything else that they put out now. If I watch something, I'll wait until it comes out on Redbox or Netflix.

When I go to the cinema I actually want to suspend my disbelief and be enthralled by a film. At it's core, going to the movies is a way to escape from your and the worlds surroundings through the medium of story telling. The way that the writers pushed their 'resist' / 'righteous anger' agendas was downright insidious and not what I want in an escape.

I'm not attacking anyone who liked the film; the production values, costumes, and sets were pretty neat. What I don't particularly enjoy, is that mainstream critics are giving critical acclaim to a film that pushes a divisive and false agenda to the public at large. Quite frankly I'm kinda done with MSM critics trying to push a globalist/communist/divisive perspective on the United States.
 
I thought the film was good, especially since it stood on its own story-wise without a strong "Avengers help us" finale. The fight scenes were tight as was the action. The cast was superb all around, as a movie it was excellent.

The social commentary though, the colonialism angle/ theme...they could have made a great movie without all of that. The Dark Knight Rises surveillance scene where Batman and Lucius are discussing how Fox has turned every device into a sensor....that was a solid way to make a political statement IMO. It is there but it doesn't dominate the movie. The Black Panther was in your face about with its political statement, so much so it was the movie's plot. Just as I started to get into the movie again, I was beat over the head with "oh, another white guy to save" line or a comment about colonialism. It was too heavy on social commentary. Take that away and it is a very good movie.

I saw the totals and I think Disney is going to milk 'Black Panther' for all it's worth before quietly shelving it. Honestly, I'm of the mindset that Disney just squandered the goodwill of alot of audience goers and they know it. Same thing happened with 'The Last Jedi', Disney let some SJW producers and writers mess up a great concept.

I know Disney ain't getting my money for a while.

Come on man for fuck's sake you're reading way too much into this. The movie has its genesis in the comic book from the 60s- not exactly a great time in black/white relations. The language is from that and is a direct reference to the books.

And let's be honest- colonisation hasn't exactly been a wonderful thing for Africa.

The film made some painfully obvious jabs at the USA, CIA, and western society for oppressing people of color. Heck, the beginning of the film contained a monologue about the aforementioned and the main villain's motivations were based on the same ideology to get back at the west.

Again, when I go to the movies I want to enjoy myself and escape via the medium of story telling. I'm not paying money to see a political message wrapped in the guise of a superhero film.

Let's be honest, colonialism happened hundreds of years ago and African nations have had plenty of time to get their houses in order. The whole modern collective trauma regarding colonialism is getting old and reeks of Marxism.

What's crazy is that for some reason Hollywood isn't stopping there. If a film or television series doesn't pander to the the SJW crowd, or doesn't fit the narrative that Hollywood wants, it tends to get killed in the reviews by professional critics.

A good example is the series 'Altered Carbon' and the film 'The Outsider', both of these works were deadpanned by critics but were well received by audiences.

What I'm seeing, is that story telling is taking a backseat to political ideologies and Hollywood, along with the MSM, is leading the charge.

I usually make it a point to see a movie that critics have absolutely hated. The worse the review, the more likely I am to see it in theaters. More often than, not, that approach serves me well. The last time I chose a movie just because the critics liked it, I left just after the halfway point. It was like serving me a mimosa with Mom’s Secret Ingredient: cyanide.
