Super Sweet Movie Discussion Thread

If this is already posted many apologies...

I need this in my life!!!!!

;-) :ROFLMAO: O_o 8-)
This was a miss for me. I understand why studios didn't sign on to it's $150M price tag.

It didn't suck but it wasn't very good either. It just tried way too hard. The premise was good, it was the execution that was the issue. There were some good moments but mostly it was a blend of Ryan Reynolds character stand up bit, Deadpool style, and a Michael Bay wet dream of action sequences.

I almost watched that tonight, decided on Drive instead. Good flick, more complex the. RP and I expected.

looks like a new trailer dropped.

Top Gun: Get Tickets Now!
I submit, anyone not stoked for this is a fuckin' liar. :-)

I love seeing the Tomcat over the mountains but it also gives me a little pause. How much are they going to CGI up this thing. The actual aerial footage gave the original an authenticity that made it the hit it was. Aside from Iran, there are no flying Tomcats, so that and any other aerial footage of it is CGI....and that's a no-go from me. Hmmmm.

I read article about new, groundbreaking, innovative aerial photography, but based on the trailers alone I can't see how they can get away without CGI for some of it....

The new Top Gun film has a boatload of Chinese money in it and is going to be cleared to run in China. If I were a Top Gun fan I would lower my expectations. Money from the PRC doesn't come without strings.

When it comes to entertainment, "If it has Chinese money, lower your expectations".

All the Star Trek movies have a ton of Chinese money in it. So you'll never get anything anti-China.

Yep! They've effectively used culture and cultural icons to push the lie of unity and benevolence.
Did the Federation have an issue with China that is not being explored in the new movies?
It's the lie of a peaceful PRC integration with the world and the acceptance of it's ideals. China's really good at legitimizing and portray themselves in a positive light.

I hear ya.

Another red flag for me were the shots of Mavrick in a space suit and what is presumably the mythical Aurora...more CGI, in addition to that of the Tomcat and a thinner Val Kilmer. Did like the P-51, but why? Seems all over the board so who knows what this will really be but it seems to be diverging much more toward fantasy.

Still stoked to see it (it's going to be YUGE) but your warning to temper expectations seems like good advice to follow.
