Super Sweet Movie Discussion Thread

Was really looking forward to '1917' but it was just meh. Too long and not particularly compelling. For as long as it was, you'd think character development was strong - nope. It just missed on a lot of levels for me. Don't rush out to see it, that's for sure.

^ Adding to previous comments. Was surprised to just read this movie came in at a hair under 2 hours. It felt twice as long. Aside from the continuous filming style, which was kind of interesting from a "I wonder how they did that" viewpoint, I don't understand why this movie is getting so much praise. Will be curious to see what the rest of you here have to say about it.

Joker fucking crushed it with the Oscar nominations this year. It blows my mind that the guy who directed The Hangover (Todd Philips) is how a Best Director nominee. Crazy. Ina good way. Also for us comic book fans- I think it’s official that comic book and superhero movies are officially taken seriously now.

I’m convinced part of the reason it did so well is because it is rated “R.” That gets to the truest essence of it. Anyone reading Punisher or Batman comics as a kid knew it wasn’t child’s play. That’s part of what I liked about Netflix takes on the comics. When Fisk smashed in dude’s head with a car door on Daredevil, I knew they had the real deal.

You need to get some Infantry in you. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the movie.

I was really looking forward to this movie and then trailer came out. Hopefully Pits' role will be treated fairly even if the rest of the movie looks formulaic as hell. Great casting though.

Has anyone here seen this yet?

I have not and, to be honest, I'm a bit apprehensive to do so because... Hollywood.

The lack of discussion around it only serves to reinforce that apprehension.

Yesterday I saw Bad Boys 3 then I went out of the cinema and waited for my mate then I marched back in and watched 1917.

BB3 is actually pretty good. It should have been the end of the series but it doesn't look like it. Good dumb fun and in the spirit of the others.

1917 was pretty fucking good. I don't want to spoil it.

Watched Gentleman today, if it was released in 2019 I'd rank it as one of my favorite movies of the year next to JoJo Rabbit and Knives Out.

One of the very few movies I'm going to see multiple times in theater alone.

Jojo Rabbit...better than Inglorious Basterds? Can't compare? Apples and oranges?

I want to see Knives Out and Joker but haven't yet.

Don't know if this analogy works, but Inglorious Basterds is like a 20 year single malt, and JoJo Rabbit is that great everyday whiskey that is always a mainstay in the home bar. I greatly enjoy both but I'd rewatch JoJo more than Basterds.

Knives Out and Joker are both fantastic, each for seperate reasons. Joaquin Phoenix is the best Joker tied with Ledger, and Knives Out is just a fun story that leaves you guessing until the very end.

So- I was lucky enough to attend this premier in Pitts’ home town of Piqua, Ohio. I met some of the soldiers he saved and heard the story of that day- which is absolutely insane.

I loved the movie, but I’m obviously biased. If you’re looking for a ‘Black Hawk Down’ sort of movie (all action) you’re in the wrong place; this movie does an amazing job of telling the true story of Pitts and the fight to get him the MOH 52 years after the event. Think courtroom suspense with a side of action (they depict the battle Operation Abilene pretty well).

All in all- if you’re connected to the story in any way, or want to see Samuel L JACKSON turn in a hell of a performance (Sebastian Stan too) then go right now. It’s worth it.

Thanks for the feedback. That's what I'm looking for.

I know Pitts' story. Not looking for "Black Hawk Down" but not looking for "Lone Survivor" either. I just want the story, however it's told, to do right by him. Reviews are average and I simply haven't spoken to anyone/heard from anyone that's seen it.

Was going to check out The Last Full Measure this afternoon but doesn't look to be playing anywhere near me. Was this a limited release or is it out of theaters already?

Birds of Prey, aka Harley Quinn movie.

Very predictable throughout. Enjoyable at points. Harley never wears the spandex shorts.

I think it's worth watching, but I wouldn't do so in the theater. The previews gave a lot away. Sadly, it's a DC movie similar to Suicide Squad, just with R rated language. 5/10

I haven't watched it yet due to the fact the previews made it look extremely boring. Would you say it's worth seeing on a $5 movie day?
