Super Sweet Movie Discussion Thread

Watching John Candy: I Like Me, documentary. I'm shocked it's taken this long to tell his story, a true legend of comedy. John Candy started my love of comedy.

He is one of my favorite actors, Uncle Buck being one of my favorite all time movies. We lost him too soon. Funny as hell, good and decent, and the world could use a little more John Candy today.

I watched Warfare on the flight back from Chicago today. It was good, not great. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. 3/4 Allah Akbars.

As an aside, if every Marine/Soldier made a film of similar experience after Ramadi or Fallujah we'd have 1,000 movies. It was a good story but definitely not unique.

Black Bag on Prime. British spy thriller about a married couple who work together at MI6. Pretty good plot and plenty of twists (you know, because it's British). Manufactured cyber weapon gets out and they track it down while searching for a mole in house.

Not epic, but not a waste of time either. Can we do half stars? Because I think this one fits.

3.5/5 Newcastle Brown Ales

Going on the 2nd season of Slow Horses an Apple TV. Show about a group of MI5 "spies" working in London, except, I guess "unofficial cover" or something as they are second tier agents that were assigned in this office for screwing up.

Pretty good storyline, dry humor from Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) who leads the group. In the first season they chase a nationalist domestic terror cell that threatens to behead a Pakistani-Brit. Thought it would turn out all woke or whatever, but it did not. All the typical espionage tricks, back door dealing, car chases, CCTV hacking, etc. Cool show.

Check yourself at the door; it's 5/5, got it?

Heard season 5 starts off the rails. Trying to get my GF caught up so we can watch it together.

A House of Dynamite, Netflix

I grew up on the great nuclear apocalypse thrillers of the '80s... Special Alert, The Day After, etc., made in similar fashion. It's extremely well done, taut, with tension, with an unsettling ending. Well, I guess I did not need to sleep tonight anyway.

This is from the same director who did Hurt Locker? I'm still in wonder about how well received that movie was. I thought it was bad.
