I'm for all American adults, with the exception of some felons, having any gun they want. So I support background checks, but that's about it.

I'm on the fence on felons owning guns. If you paid your debt to society, then your societal accesses should be restored. If you cannot be trusted, then you shouldn't be free. Then there's the argument of temptation, etc...but I swing it back to the point that they probably shouldn't be free.

Just a quick note on the State of the Union.

It's stupid. It can be a damn letter and should be. It's political grandstanding from both parties, but it's so engrained in the history of this nation (now) that it happens every year.

I am sure the clips and soundbites will be sweet, and as long as our moral betters, these elected officials that run our lives, can be professional and not children for 90 minutes, we should be fine.

... but we know that won't happen. Enjoy the bread and circuses.

But Trump says some words, deploys some troops along the border and incursions drop to their lowest rate per month since like the 70s for February? Wild. Having worked in the corporate sector for awhile and watch the Army try to get more corporate...The Army from a personnel perspective is so far ahead of corporate. Most companies do not have evaluations processes. So most people who get the sack are usually just getting the dildo and the company will lose productivity.

My department was down by double digits well before Trump taking office. A hiring freeze penalizes us.

We were down to 60% manning, including one supervisor and one who is about to PCS back to the states in a few weeks because her husband has orders. Our previous Deputy knew we had vacancies but held the job certs on her desk for a year. Since she left, we have worked hard to prioritize getting bodies here. Sadly I looked at it from the wrong lenses at the time as I took the what’s best for the enterprise approach. That meant my teams got filled last. Well guess who is the only Division now that has hiree’s frozen?

TLDR: don’t always think one level above you.

I’m stepping off my soap box. Cuts are good but I don’t think this was the right cut given how many organizations are already undermanned.

I understand the frustration with the hiring freeze. We're under one up here and the wife's department let to many transfer out and now they're filling 24 hour shifts for other jobs. The difference is our government isn't doing anything to find waste and reallocate funds where it's needed. I think both of our governments for the past few years have gone spend crazy on bullshit and let critical areas get near failure.
It seems like all you need to do is tag Musk on X with major issues and he'll bring it to Trump. Maybe some of you need to utilize whistleblower protections and start spamming X.
