So Trump is going to do some federal policing in DC? We feeel good about this federal government reach into local matters, when he is also threatening to do it in other major cities? Military patrolling in a major city? Everyone thinks this will go well right?

Of course we do.

Exceptions are always permitted when the political theorist in question is directing it towards entire "crime emergency" districts they concurrently are forcing the thousands of federal employees and contractors en masse that they care about to transit to, through, and from.

The answer to that is, "it depends." There is a whole lot of ambiguity and exceptions as to what the military can do regarding collecting/sharing intelligence in DoD 5240.

National Guard plan would create military ‘reaction force’ for civil unrest

The plan calls for 600 troops to be on standby at all times so they can deploy in as little as one hour, the documents say. They would be split into two groups of 300 and stationed at military bases in Alabama and Arizona, with purview of regions east and west of the Mississippi River, respectively.

The proposal being evaluated now would allow the president to mobilize troops and put them on Title 32 orders in a state experiencing unrest. The documents detailing the plan acknowledge the potential for political friction should the governor refuse to work with the Pentagon.

The proposal envisions a rotation of service members from Army and Air Force National Guard units based in multiple states. Those include Alabama, Arizona, California, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee, the documents say.

The 300 troops in each of the two headquarters’ locations would be outfitted with weapons and riot gear, the documents say. The first 100 would be ready to move within an hour, with the second and third waves ready to move within two and 12 hours notice, the documents note, or all immediately deployed when placed on high alert.

The quick-reaction teams would be on task for 90 days, the documents said, “to limit burnout.”

Hopefully they're somewhere with a DFAC, so they can feed them for the government rate of $2.8 million a year. If they've gotta get Per Diem that'll be (low end) $25 million. Thats just food, I'm not mathing out lodging or other associated costs.
I know it says T32, but there's no way this plan doesn't tax each state's already thinning budget.

Additionally, how do they get around soldiers from another state operating in a state that didn't request support? That's a huge quagmire to solve first.

All in all, it's probably just stupid grandstanding. I look forward to this becoming Jade Helm 2027

$25M? We have room for that in the budget after Doge deep-sixed NIH's landmark study- "the impact of structural racism and discrimination on health outcomes in minority communities." That was actually $27M, so we have some wiggle room for the DFAC.

The NGB budget got slashed pretty well for FY26, with continuous percentage cuts each year until FY30(IIRC).

We (the Fed), have money to do basically anything, but this seems to be another thing where we want to do more with less. I'll be interested to see if budgets increase for this plan specifically in FY27, if they move forward with it.

Crime and the culture of DC didn't matter until very recently because it doesn't affect you locally; taking murderers off the streets after years of mismanagement and corruption does (because you don't like the dude doing it or how).

It's legal, it should have happened years ago, I don't care. It's another 80/20 issue that's going to follow the same playbook as all the rest-If anything, it's the roadmap for St Louis, Birmingham, Cleveland, Baltimore and a host of others with murder rates north of 30 per 100k.
