What Are You Currently Reading?

I've been starting training for a half marathon recently, and my wife happened to have a copy of Born To Run by Chris McDougall. Pretty solid book, really interesting stuff on the Tarahumara Indians and ultrarunning. Not picking that up anytime soon, but good motivation fodder for my longer runs.

Also picked up Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, The British Are Coming by Rick Atkinson (based off the reccomendation of tons of people on here) and Mindhunter: Into The FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Douglas. Will probably read them in that order just because the last few books I've read have been non-fiction and I need a little T-Rex to reel me back in.

The Tarahumara are fascinating I remember reading how they drink those corn beer that gives them a huge boost for running

I liked it... more than I thought after the first chapter. So much in there.

Anyone else feel like the more they read, the less they want to watch movies or TV?

For me, it’s part enjoyment of books, and maybe the messaging from Fahrenheit 451 and the above ☝🏽 that television is a mind-numbing control device. Heck, I wonder what Bradbury would say about the ubiquitous headphones & ear pods today; seems a lot like the ear shells in Fahrenheit 451.

My goal for 2019 was to read more fiction. I think I did that. 31 books read, over half fiction. I want to read more primary sources during 2020.
 
Im reading Shadow Warrior by Randall Woods. Its a biography on
Wlliam Colby. Essentially, he started out in the original OSS and was even teammates with Aaron Bank. Then went on to become the director of the CIA and was extremely influential in Vietnam covert operations. Very interesting read!
 
Finished up Mindhunter by John Douglas last week. Easily the most thought provoking book I've read all year. After reading that book, it fully confirms my belief in capital punishment. When Ed Kemper "The Coed Killer" asked what should happen to him after his crimes, he replied with "death by torture." He was on to something. There are some truly evil people out there.

Started The British Are Coming today and already fully engrossed in it.

Have you watched the series Mindhunter, on Netflix? I'm sure it doesn't do the book justice, it's supposed to be loosely adapted but it's well done.

Yeah I finished the first two seasons of it. It is loosely based on the book but the show does a great job of showing the interviews with the killers in prison and the FBI's initial reluctance to put more effort into behavioral science. And the casting is absolutely excellent too. The people who were picked to play the Coed and Atlanta Killers are spittingimages of their real life motivations.

Dont know if you saw, but they just put the show on indefinite hold and released all the actors from their contracts. Literally the day after I finsh the book. Figures.

I swear the major producer's are idiots and don't know a good thing when they have it. I hope it returns. Now I'll have to get the audiobook.
