Game of Thrones thread -

Interesting article, on Slate of all places, looking at how Daeny may have not gone mad, but been making a tactical decision.

Slate: The Strategic Case for Burning King’s Landing.
A Military Strategist on Why Daenerys’ Scorched-Earth Policy May Not Be So Mad After All
I’d be willing to entertain this if the past 4 episodes weren’t a master class in how not to do tactics.

To assume that the show runners fucked everything up until this one measured tactical action is a reach even for me, and I like this final season.

No disrespect to the person who wrote that article, I see where he's coming from, but I think he is reading way to much into what is in all likelyhood just poor writing and inconsistency for the sake of quickly wrapping things up, rather than well thought out character development. It's not like Dany planned any of that. If she did off-screen than the writers did a good job not conveying anything to the audience as she just switches in an instant without any reason. I'd rather people would not search for excuses so that future shows aren't ruined by the same pattern of great buildup and weak climax.

My theory on why this season is so rushed:

They're tired and want this to end.

Think about it, the cast and much of the crew have been at this for about 10 years. That's an eternity for TV. During that time you can't involve yourself in other projects because you're filming the series, doing press tours in support, etc. The show becomes your life. Any other acting gigs are cramed into the time left, and if those involve a prominent role in a TV show or movie...more press tours.

For 9-10 years they have labored under that schedule. While paid handsomely for their work, and make no mistake I don't begrudge them for that, they probably want to do something else. This season alone could take two full seasons, but instead we're done.

The story demands more time than everyone's willing to work. Everyone wants to move on, that's how I see it.

I hope that's not the case. For instance, I hate Cersi so much I refuse to watch her in other shows. If their laziness is what made this shit show spiral out of control, the North [America] will remember.

Those bastards as a struggling actor what I wouldn’t give to be on a highly successful show for 8 years

A good friend mentioned something to me. Aya's horse is white. I'll let Johnny Cash address this.

"And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts
And I looked, and behold a pale horse
And his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with him"

Just got done watching it and this was my immediate thought, I pray to whatever God there is that she goes full on murder boner for Dany.

Fuck Jon for being a limp dicked bitch and not listening to Varys and refusing to stand up to Dany, fuck Tyrion for being a snitch because stitches aren't good enough for him now. Fuck Dany for literally everything in the most recent episode.

The only way this show ends on a high note is if Arya merks everyone. No one deserves to live at this point.

My theory is that the HBO writers simply aren't up to the task and I blame it on that lazy turd George R R Martin.

The first several seasons were compelling because they were based on a solid story that was complete and built over years. When GRRM failed to keep up with the HBO series, HBO's writers had to takeover and that's when the storyline started to suffer.

This season is simply a culmination of GRRM's laziness.

The pic posted by @Polar Bear here illustrates it well:

This show made a lot of them. Maybe some of them are tired, I get it. But it has not stopped them from filming major projects during the same time period.

Emilia Clark in Solo

Sophie Turner in X-Men, Dark Phoenix

Kit Harrington-Gunpowder, Brimstone, MI5

Maisie Williams a ton of stuff.

Lena Heady a ton of stuff

Gwendoline Christie- Hunger Games Mockingjay Pt 2, Star Wars EP VII and EP VIII, a bunch of other shit.
