Gaming thread

Normally, I would agree with you concerning the plebeian peasant console. However, this is HALO and this is one area where PC has failed to acquire this stellar title with any efficiency. So this gets a pass from the PC Master Race gods.... as a great man once said to my brother in the hell that was SIGDET "about face and draw fire"

Let's be honest, HALO is never going to directly leave the Xbox. It's one of, if not THE major title for the system. I'm sure that MS Game studios or w/e segment of Cthulhu tentacle the Xbox falls under would be willing to flat out sponsor the game to make it come out, rather than lose it to a wider dispersion. I know that I'd jump all over it for PC, and I know that if it went to PC they'd have to have independent gaming lobbies otherwise all the "console peasants" would learn extremely quickly their role in the hierarchy of FPS gaming.... cannon fodder and higher scores for us PCers.

Guys... I've heard HALO V was terrible. It's actually pretty sad, but to be honest I think I stopped enjoying the HALO series after Reach. Anyone equally dissapointed in Fallout 4 as I am?

Just wondering wondering, what're you guys playing on? I built my PC personally, pretty fun if you like that kind of stuff. I see the Ranger above me uutilizes the full power of... PC...

Other than that, Ive recently been getting into Roguelikes. Checkout "Cataclysm: DDA"

The last HALO that MC and I actually liked was ODST. We had... 3? Fuck if I know anymore... At this point, they're not really introducing much more in the way of actual gameplay. Yes, you have a jetpack-ish thing now... so you can get some hops and do some flying elbow off the top rope. Yeah, you have a Mech of sorts... but there's not much changed in terms of the actual gameplay beyond those two small features from what I saw from the playthrough that had all the narrative during gameplay as well as cutscenes.. It's development of the larger plot at this point, so you're playing for the cutscenes. I'd sooner pay to watch a HALO movie (and Forward Unto Dawn was a pretty good flick, especially when Master Chief strolled into play)

Plus, I'm not personally one to go out and buy the newest console, especially only for a single game. We have a 360 in the house and even that we really don't play much if at all. Unlike with PC where a 300-500 investment in a video card now lets you play the newest titles in fantastic-vision, but also makes everything else you had run even better.... you're stuck with minimal to any backward compatibility with games, so you're shelling out 50 a title + for the console + for accessories that don't always cross over to the next model + + + +.... not my cup of tea.

Fallout 4 was good, beautiful, but it's Fallout. I dislike DLC, but FONV showed that DLC did make much more in terms of playability and overall title longevity. I think I had beat the game within 2 days, albeit on regular difficulty. Now I'm just playing with mods to change how things work (adjust weapon damages so they're more appropriate, multiple followers at the same time, etc) to make things more interesting. Unfortunately, with how the followers are, I can't have EVERYONE tromping around in armor since one action that someone likes, someone loves, and someone's indifferent to... someone hates enough that they'll become hostile to me, at which point the entire squad's fragging their ass and now I have to undo things, get them out of their armor, go fix it up, etc.

I'm futzing around with a totally open source/free to play game called Endless Sky on the side. Space combat/trade with some significant moddability. It's still in development, so the storyline missions are lacking plus have little lead-in, but it's still pretty awesome to have a huge battlefleet of doom roll up into a sector and just go FUCK YOUR SHIT. Midway with laser/plasma weaponry, anyone?

Yeah ODST was pretty fun too, however I never finished it. I think I just started to get bored with then honestly, the gameplay just got way too repetitive for me. And I totally agree with the console thing, my last was a 360 as well, and honestly I only used it when I was much younger. I sort of just naturally transitioned to PC, And pretty much only spent 500 I'm totality. That was about 3 yes ago, definitely needing a new video card now. Looking at some AMD stuff.

I have a lot to say about FO4 honestly. I'm a long time fan of Fallout and have played 1 through New Vegas in near entirety. I was super super pumped for FO4, but in the end to me it fell so flat it was somewhat painful. The dialog is very limiting, and to me it seemed you could only play as a super good guy or just some cartoon villain. The gunplay is very fun... But even the quests to me started to get boring. It seems like all you really do is kill, now that dialog is nerfed. I thought settlements were gonna be super fun, but in the end it just felt kinda bland. And Christ, the ending... The endings for the game to me kind of made me angry honestly. Oh well, I think I'll just go back to my comfy Fallout New Vegas and mod the hell out of it some more.

Ooh, I'll check that out. I feel like I haven't played a good space game in forever. Honestly I've just kind of been dissapointed with games as a whole recently. I just end up replaying older games like Mount and Blade: Warband and whatnot.

Well, Endless Sky is a top down sorta shooter sorta trader pseudo tactical sorta not game... it's basically in a fully functional alpha right now where they're fleshing out the game's additional features, weapons, ships, and factions. I'm enjoying it, but it doesn't even have a soundtrack (where's the sound in space anyway) yet... but, it's still fun, and will run on quite probably a frigging arduino with a screen.

I bought, but probably won't be playing for a bit, the expansion for Elite:Dangerous. THAT is a good space game, but you really need a good throttle/stick combo to be able to play well.. and Voice Attack (ie voice commands to do functions you program) is also a huge help since it's much easier to grunt POP FLARES POP CHAFF COMBAT POWER bla de blah, than have to be stretching all over your controllers to hit all the buttons and switches to do it manually.

I couldn't advocate buying an AMD card. For better or worse publishers write for Nvidia chipsets and AMD is usually an afterthought. I kind of laugh at guys on game websites who buy these high end rigs and then complain "Publishers still have problems with AMD" Still....as in "This is a problem I've known about but went ahead and bought another AMD card." I've just seen too many reviews and negative comments over the years about publishers coding for AMD cards to ever buy one.

Mount and Blade: Warband is one of the best titles out there. It gets repetitive, but there are so many awesome mods for the game. One thing I really like about a game is the availability of mods. Bethesda may come up short in some aspects, but a community will mod the hell out of a game and make it 10x better than the original.

Anybody played BattleFront? I have it on Xbox One. I was initially unimpressed, but the game is growing on me, though I'm still underwhelmed by it overall. The graphics are sweet and multiplayer is fun. There isn't any customization really beyond choosing what your character looks like. Honestly, if they just let the user customize their primary weapon I would probably not have too many complaints.

I have to concur with FF regarding AMD... The only real advantage AMD's had in the near past was in the better ability to mine cryptocurrency, which at this point is beyond even GPU mining for cost/benefit.

Well, the reason I was considering an AMD card was really just for the sheer cheapness of them haha. Since I only go to HS and don't have a job its a bit easier to get something cheaper, however my true loyalty is to NVIDIA. Never had a problem with my card from them. I totally agree about Mount and Blade, ive had it for years and have put hundreds of hours into it checking out a lot of mods. Yeah I agree as well, but honestly the things in FO4 aren't really things that could be fixed by mods, or at least well in my opinion. However Fallout New Vegas modding has added soooo much playtime for me.

Sadly I've heard this is pretty much the reaction from most people, however I personally haven't played the game.

Yeah bitcoing mining seems to be pretty much useless right now... I've heard you need to put in A LOT of money into it to even try to get a positive outcome.

Meant to add, if any of you have Mount and Blade Warband on steam and don't have the original mount and blade, download the trial for Mount and Blade and use your Mount and Blade Warband serial key in the Mount and Blade Demo serial key field and it will unlock for free.

So for Christmas I decided to go old school with my present to myself... The new games are pretty fun and have spectacular graphics. The old ones were just plain fun... This one comes preloaded with about 250 games and you can add more for free (if you are licensed for them). Oh, and if you hate the controllers like I do, you can hook your consoles to it and play them with real controls. Now I just have to pay for the damn thing in the next 12 billing cycles :D

Just got the Fallout 3 GOTY edition (my first Fallout game) and Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion (and the Forbidden Worlds DLC) on Steam for under $20. That should keep me occupied for a while.

Steam's holiday sales are always good for grabbing some older games for ridiculous prices.

Steams games are all FPS or MP online? (Gave son some stuff from Steam for BD & Christmas.)

No, there are quite a few single player games on there. There's simulation, driving, RTS (Real time strategy) basically all of the genres of gaming are available. You see more First Person Shooters and Multiplayer games on there because that is what got Steam its popularity thanks to a deal with the original Counter Strike team.
