Gaming thread

So.....off the cuff quick hits regarding Destiny 2 : Beyond Light.

- 5 hours in and I haven't completed the BL storyline and obtained Stasis. For you new users, you have some content ahead of you.
- 5 destinations went away. Exotic quests releated to those destinations are availble to purchase, i.e. you can buy Mountaintop or Tarrabah for example.
- The weather on Europa is sick. A firefight on a blizzard? Pimp.
- Want to run the new Lost Sectors or Strikes on Europa? lol...better level up.
- A cheese right now is to run Widow's Walk in the EDZ which drops +10 light level gear, allowing you to level up faster. AKA, what I do every so often.
- There is less content for you D2 folks with 5 destinations going away. There is still plenty to do. You could drop 40-50 hours in the new game minus raids on the new content alone. This is essentially a new game. PvP/ PvE, things have changed.

I'm in D2 almost every day. If you want a link to our Discord, shoot me a PM. I'll run whatever content you'd like. Let's go...

ETA: this will only last for...however. If this doesn't work, PM me. Join the Shadowspear's Only Fans Discord Server!

Still attempting to slash my way thru Sekiro. Finally made it past the snake and was able to rest at that Alter. Phew.

Taking a break for a few days.

I joined your link, but honestly I don’t even know what discord is. I have to do some googling later.

I recently got the new Microsoft Flight simulator. It is pretty rad. The entire world is just so amazing, you can find your house in 3D. I don’t think it is as great as something like DCS world, but it is a beautiful game.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light review.

So, I'm a D2 whore, y'all know that. With BL Destiny 2 became a new game with too many changes to list. The BL main quest took about 8 hours including some grinding to level up. You simply cannot finish the main quest without a fireteam or leveling up your character. Once the main quest was complete I still have 5-6 side quests related to the story, exotic weapons, etc.

The weather on Europa is pretty pimp. Clear to snow fall to blizzard in one mission and the blizzards really reduce visibility. Pretty cool stuff IMO. Stasis, the subclass that allows you freeze enemies, is also pretty pimp, but will take a bit of a learning curve.

All-in-all, the DLC is worth the money. The base game is free, so for the cost of the DLC you can easily acquire 50-1000 hours+ (depending on your mood, do you want to grind, PvP vs PvE, etc.) of gameplay.

Cold War launching tonight, WoW Shadowlands the 23rd I've already created a "Dear Jane" letter for the better half in preparation.

Part 1 of probably 3 on character creation in Destiny 2, because the game doesn't give you shit.

You have three Guardian types: Warlock, Titan, and Hunter. They each have unique class abilities, grenades (I won't cover them because I don't recall who has what), and jumping mechanics. All three have a Solar, Arc, and Void class and each class have 3 subclasses, usually referred to as trees. I'll try to break them down along with their subclasses.

Warlock: Class ability is a rift. One type allows you to heal yourself and your teammates, the other buffs weapons damage and I think reload speed. The 'Lock's jumping ability is pretty floaty and probably covers the most horizontal distance of the three Guardians. Dawnblade (Solar). Top tree is maybe the best PvP class in the game. Middle tree is a go to class for hardcore PvE activities. Bottom tree is trash. Stormcaller (Arc). Top and bottom trees are similar though I find TT to be better at PvE and BT is the PvP option. Middle tree was designed by a 5 YO. Voidwalker is rarely used except bottom tree because it has the ability to consume your grenade to regen health. Top tree is a good PvE option and middle tree was nerfed into something that is rarely used. I am a Warlock main.

Titan: Class ability is a barricade. One option is a tall barricade that functions as a shield. The other is a short barricade that buffs reload and maybe damage. The jump is good, but Wile E. Coyote because you fall off a cliff at the end. Titans have the worst mobility in the game. Sunbreaker (think about it). Throw hammers, swing hammers, or hammer the ground. Good for PvP and PvE, especially TT. Striker (Arc). Top and bottom trees are melee focused and MT gives you a missile capability. BT is nasty in PvP and both it an TT are good ad clearing options in PvE. Sentinel (Void) One give you a Captain America shield throwing ability. One turns you into a This is Sparta melee beast with a shield to deflect incoming damage. The final option allows you to pop a nearly impenetrable bubble. Good for area control and damage in both PvP and PvE. Combine this with a Warlock's Well of Radiance (MT) and you have a devastating PvE team.

Hunter, my least favorite but the most popular class. Class ability is dodge. One returns some health the other reloads weapons. The jumps are all over the place, most players use triple jump. Hunters have the best mobility in the game. Gunslinger (Solar) is maybe the most used PvP class, especially TT, but rarely seen in PvE. You get a 6-shot gun that one hits Guardians. Brutal in the right hands. Arcstrider (duh). I think BT is most used in PvP because it gives you the ability to reflect bullets which you can use while running around and killing Guardians. You can also use it in PvE for ad control. I forget what the other trees bring to the fight. Nightstalker (Void) decent PvP option and it has a killer PvE option when combined with the other two Guardian classes above is the ideal makeup for hardcore PvE. I think MT gives you Spectral Blades turning you into an invisible ninja. I think TT gives you a bow that is similar to TT Gunslinger above.

This is already too long, so I'd websearch for Destiny 2 guardian types, class builds, etc. for more granularity in your options.

Part 2 of the D2 new player experience.

Pretty standard stuff. Pick a Guardian type, customize the facial features, start game. Bungie did away with the most annoying intro since Skyrim. There intro and follow on cutscenes can be skipped, but they give you bits of lore and story that you'll run across later. They aren't long. so I'd watch them unless you're not into that.

You run...4-5 missions. Typical stuff: step and fetch, go here and kill x number of bad guys, etc. Your prompts for actions like melee, toss a grenade, etc. are clear. If you've played a FPS before, this is pretty straightforward. All-in-all, a good beginning, much more streamlined than in the past, but I do have a few gripes.

- You start with your Guardian's Solar class and earn the other two sometime after the intro missions. For you Hunters, Solar is a PvP focused class so you're at a disadvantage. You're either prompted to use your super, or not, but you're never taught how to use your super.
- You receive a sparrow towards the end of the intro campaign. Problem: The Fallen have Heavy Pikes (scooters with blasters) on the field. If you know what they are and can do, you have some easy kills ahead of you. If not, they are battlefield detritus.
- If you're a FPS vet you'll notice the radar in the upper left corner. If not, whoops. They never explain the radar in the intro campaign.

There's more to the intro portion and I'll type that up when I'm finally done with the intro piece.

Good write up AWP, I only have two characters, Hunter and Warlock...the Hunter is my main (I know I know). I have been thinking of making a Titan, I just might do that on the new D2.

On another note....started playing the new COD Cold War...I usually play the campaign first, but it started to be annoying...went into warzone and liking it so far, more old school.

I didn't mind the Cold War campaign, thought it was a decent change of pace with your choices affecting the story and ending significantly. I can't help but feel like the game seems dated? Maybe it's just suffering from being the very next game after MW (arguably a perfect game) and it has to deal with that expectation.

I'm still coming to grips with the MP, it's entirely different from MW. SMG's are the dominant choice and the MP5 is the king on the golden hill.

Dirty Bomb (another mode in MP) is actually very fun and probably my go to for the time being. It's 40 players split into 4 person squads fighting for control of uranium around a large map and attempting to set off you guessed it Dirty Bombs. It's fun, it combines the best parts of Warzone with a lot of the OBJ modes like domination and hardpoint that I like in MP.

I'll be trying out zombies tonight.

For those on the fence about getting it, don't expect MW you're only going to leave extremely dissatisfied. It's not as polished and honestly kind of janky (for a AAA modern shooter release). Otherwise it's definitely enjoyable and still has that COD formula that just works.
