My 14 year old son currently plays PayDay2, H1Z1 King of the Kill, and PUBG. He's currently running an Acer Laptop that was a Christmas present two years ago. Needless to say, he's the one who causes the game to lag when he's online with friends.

Any thoughts/recommendations on a reasonably priced laptop/tower that would be more suitable for his gaming? I'm not against the idea of frankensteining one if that is a more reasonable option.

I'm out of my element here, so thanks in advance!

There are about billions ways to skin that cat though a tower will tend to be cheaper. What's your budget?

You'll get the most bang for your buck with something that lasts even longer by building a tower yourself. If you already have a monitor you can easily build a tower that can play any game right now with great graphics and smooth fps for around 800-1K. Like AWP said what's your budget?

Definitely! That site also has a bunch of great build guides. In my honest opinion, it's way better to build your own PC than to buy a pre-made pc. The task seems daunting at first but there's so much self-help information on the internet. Especially on YouTube and PCPartPicker. I've built 2 gaming PC's without any formal knowledge.

I've built 2 PC's with PCPartpicker. That's a great resource. It weeds out compatibility issues and allows you to view builds using certain parts. Want to see what a certain case/ mobo combo look like? Dig through the posted builds. It can suck up some time, but you know when you buy the parts everything will go together.

So much this. When I built my first computer really the only thing that made me get hung up and stop in my tracks was over thinking and making sure the parts I was getting were compatible with one another.

For example your CPU has to be the same chipset as your motherboard. However your cpu can be a different brand from your GPU, you also need to make sure your RAM fits with your motherboard and that you're not bottleknecking anything etc.

Anybody play Assassins Creed Origins yet? I only just bought Syndicate for cheap and am enjoying it so far but I'm digging the idea of an Ancient Egyptian setting. Honestly, I won't buy it until the bugs are fixed and the price is reasonable anyhow but I'm curious if anybody finds it worthwhile.

Steam Fall sale is out. Suggestions? Wildlands has been pretty fun. PUBG is fun now that we get to play on Asian servers and wipe the floor with them. Seriously, we got around 12 chicken dinners out of about 15 games one night. 8 of those were in a row. I got the old Homeworld bundle, but the expansion Deserts of Kharak looks really good. Doom and Deus Ex are even reasonably priced.

ETA: anyone play Stellaris? Thoughts?

I love stellaris. Very deep strategy with a good amount of variety and a ton of mods. The only thing about it is if you want achievements you have to play in 'ironman' mode - no player saves, just autosave. There's nothing worse than getting 3 hours into a game, making an error in the type of fleet you built, and getting destroyed by a neighbor. Still, it makes the game interesting and impactful all the way through.

I think Warhammer total war II is a blast as well in terms of strategy.

Looking through the steam specials the ones I have and have liked are: Witcher III (good blend of RPG and combat), Divinity Original Sin 2 (great party-based RPG), Fallout 4, Sniper Elite 4, Doom.

If you don't have them the deep cuts (to me) are Skyrim and Half-Life 2. I think Half-life 2 is one of the best games of all time - linear story is seldom done so well.

Stellaris sounds cool. I have had HL2 since it came out in the Orange Box. Hard agree on one of the best games and storylines of all times. If you like HL, try out the Black Mesa game. It is HL1 remastered and looks amazing. Worth the purchase.

Paradox games are like that. I love their work, but their DLC policy is garbage. Europa Universalis 4? They are still cranking out DLC and the mod community for all of Paradox's games is ridiculously deep.
