Wait- was that a cross thread, thinly veiled, passive aggressive suggestion?!

Doc, congrats Sir, you just won all the internets.

Awesome Awesome Awesome. Welcome.
I may pick your brain about what you do. Fellow tech writer and advocate for our disabled vets. Would love to start a program like this where I live.

I'm not sure what you mean about starting "a program like this." I work in the Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Center, VA CT. There are Computer Access Training Programs (CAT) in 12 (I think) Blind Centers around the country. You don't have to start one, all you have to do is refer a veteran to his local VIST -- Vision Impairment Specialist Team and that person will make the arrangements including, in most cases, transportation to and from the Center. Any legally blind veteran is eligible and and some who aren't quite legally blind may be able to receive some services. All services are free including any glasses, magnifiers and a complete Dell computer system with the software that meets their needs. We are also getting into training on and issuing iPhones and iPads (not me, though -- I prefer PCs.)

What I actually do is one-on-one training in the use of the computer and access program. Most of my writing is for my students and consists of step-by-step handouts of how to do a process like copy and paste text.

Let me know what you want to do and I will see if I can help. :)

ROFLMAO!!! My secrets to writing are to use Firefox with built in spellcheck and a well-worn copy of The Well Tempered Sentence: A Punctuation Handbook for the Innocent, the Eager and the Doomed, by Karen Elizabeth Gordon.

Unfortunately there isn't one in my state but I know some folks in the disabilities community. I'd love to talk to the local providers and see if they can get something started independently or through the VA here. The next NOFAs are going out soon. But either way, I'd love to help however I can. I've done tutorials in the past and would do them on a volunteer basis.

Aaaaand... another book that I simply must own now.

ETA: We need to get Karen Elizabeth Gordon and Jasper Fforde together.
