Not to hijack but one of the more "realistic" movies based on a war event was "The Great Raid".

While I can agree that it was a damn good movie and a story that needed to be told, I am in no position to know how accurate or inaccurate it might have been.

Ah yes, let me re-phrase: the movie seemed fairly in line with the book. The accuracies, inaccuracies are known by history and those who were there.
