Super Sweet Movie Discussion Thread

Same I didn't realized the Gal Gadot and Natalie Portman were so offensive. Anyone know if the Israelis would ever censor a movie based on an Arab/Muslim actor?
I’m not quite getting your post. :(

I didn't find Gal Gardot offensive. I don’t hate the actress, but she didn’t inspire me. I hate the Wonder Woman, the movie. I do blame the script, the director and everything that produced the output which was a empty story of a woman bounding around in a shiny bustiere while everyone was just extras. I found the treatment of World War I component shallow. Such a big budget to make one woman ‘look’ unrealistically good. I wished it made more sense even by Super Hero standards. So today I asked another woman’s opinion, I’ve been asking men, who all look at me like I’m overly harsh. I turned to my left and asked the quirky lady next to me. After having a fun chat to her about her doll collection, I asked her opinion on if she enjoyed Wonder Woman. Her answer was to scrunch her nose and reply, ‘Not really.’

I’m just not getting the high rating.

I think once you've thumped Arab countries everytime they decide to start a war, you stop sweating the small stuff.

Calling it a good movie might be an overstatement but it was a good, easy rebound for me after enduring Three Billboards last night.

Good or not, that's an opinion. It became obvious though how biased the media can be about movie reviews when I went to see Death Wish Yesterday with 2 other people whom also liked the movie, and the theater was nearly packed. If you read the subpar reviews, the authors mostly make reference to gun control and violence and lead you to believe that no one liked it.

I've stopped taking reviews from critics into consideration anymore, overtime it became apparent to me how people's bias would show through in their reviews skewing scores. So now I watch trailers, read story summaries and see what my friends have said it.

Looking forward to what Jordan Peele will do in the years to come. Rockwell is a great actor and I’m happy he was finally nominated but Willem Dafoe will make you feel good about humans again after you see him in The Florida Project. And he’s LONG overdue for a win (first of his 3 nominations was platoon over 30 years ago.)

Still glad Rockwell has the W. And if we are talking about overdue- Oldman finally takes it home.

Happy Del Toro finally won one. These Mexican directors are killing it- 4 of the last 5 have gone to the “three amigos” as their called (not kidding or being racist, that’s what they call themselves.)

Agree. And I liked it....it's just not going to win any awards, that's all. I was entertained and that's all I was looking for.

What stuff?

I can't watch movies with Israeli actors in them where I'm at because they don't play them in the theaters.

I was asking rhetorically if Gal Gadot and Natalie Portman were offensive.

Hollywierd is offensive off screen for the sake of argument. As entertainment goes some good some garbage...mostly garbage. Since spending too many years around the life draining self serving entertainers I can say that none of them are worth spit or arguing about.

No @Serenity . Just no. Talk about movies all you want in this thread, but DO NOT attempt to turn someone's offhanded comments into something they are not. If you are somehow offended by what you read here, then stop reading.

You read way to much into things some times.

And we'll let @medicchick get the final word on this. Back to our regularly scheduled programming of movies....boobs....and bling.
Sorry, it didn't post before I went out to take my daughter to the bus stop.:(

On the thread topic, we saw the Black Panther movie a few days ago and liked it. I thought the costumes were beautiful and there were just enough laughs to keep it from going dark. Bibbers liked it and her friends at school were waiting until she saw it to play Black Panther so they are all happy...lol

I don't remember seeing anything about it here, but anyone have thoughts on The Shape of Water? Del Toro is usually a must see for me, but was looking for extra input.

Quick mod-edit to give the NSFW tag. You'll have to show me how you do that button. Pretty cool.

Agreed - show me, too.

+1 point for @SaintKP.

This is for mobile (I don't have a computer so I don't know if it's any different), but you click on the icon with 3 blocks in a row and select the "spoiler" option and type what you want the spoiler tag to say. It'll automatically input the code for it to show up, all you need to do is type what you want to be hidden in between the two brackets

You can also do what I did and attach an image, but you need you make sure that you are in between the two brackets when you do otherwise it's going to turn out jacked up.

I don't have cable and I don't get out to watch movies often. But the hotel I stayed in over the weekend had HBO so I was able to watch "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them," which I thought was amusing and well-done, even as someone who's not into Harry Potter. It took me a minute to realize what movie I remembered that female lead from. It was definitely not a kid's movie...

I also wanted the latest in the Alien series... Covenant I think it was called? Pretty disappointing. I watched "Aliens" first and all of the rest of the genre, IMO, were but pale reflection.
