Super Sweet Movie Discussion Thread

Watching Zulu with a young ( as we know him) Michael Caine. What a great film, especially the sight of the Zulu on the ridge and their sound like a freight train and thunder on their shields.

I always thought a short sword, of some kind, would have been effective in CQB in that time period.

Edit: as part of their regular kit.

I don't watch too many movies, but I have been a 007 fanatic since I was little kid. James Bond is my super hero. The franchise has been family owned and safely guarded from the beginning so this may be the end. IMO, the newer movies have been some of the best and I just hope it don't get stupid and lose it's originality maintained over all the years.

I meant to post something similar earlier. Even some 20-somethings I know who are well left of center hate what Amazon might do to Bond.

Bond is universal and that should never change. An orphaned white guy, alcoholic with some misogyny while also propping up women, who gives a shit about rules and almost enjoys killing people.

Don't raise your kid to be Bond, raise your kid to enjoy Bond. That's theater, that's escapism. Bond is entertainment, not a role model. Just let James be James, eat your popcorn, and then fuck off to to work on Monday. It really is that easy.

I hate fiction. HATE fiction. I've read fiction from maybe 2 or 3 authors in the last decade.

Ian Fleming is underrated.

If you bother to read the books (America doesn't bother to read) you can appreciate the character and you see who he is and why he's that way. We glorify mobsters and serial killers, but Bond triggers people? Get the fuck out...

Yeah I'm afraid James Bond will be Jane Bond or what the fuck ever is trending, and they will try to make it into a streaming series or some bullshit. Part of the appeal for me is the anticipation of experiencing it on the big screen.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you hate fiction? It's the opposite for me—I find nonfiction, except for military history and some other historical topics, absolutely boring. I'd rather read Gideon the Ninth than a book about building European railroads.

Don't turn Bond into someone he is not. Don't make him woke, gay, another race or ethnicity*, give him deep seated emotions, make him navel gaze over moral ambiguity or clutches pearls, etc. He is a man's man. Keep him that way.

* I heard a couple of names floated around, Idris Elba, etc. I don't hate it.

Dalton and Craig get an ok nod because one was North Walian and the other a Northerner. Elba is a Londoner and that needs to stop. Bond is Scottish.

I found out that both Tarantino and Nolan were in the running to direct Bond movies at one point. Nolan didn’t get it and made the Dark Knight trilogy. Tarantino didn’t get it and made Inglorious Basterds. Both turned out ok, but man, what could have been.

I thought they Daniel Craig Bond series was really good. Did you not like them? Tarantino doesn't seem to be the right fit for Bond; it needs to be "smarter" than aTarantino film.

If only he'd get Samuel L Jackson to play Bond lol....
Lol. He'd be a good villian.

Bond and his adversaries are all flawed characters and nobody does a better job bringing that out than Tarantino. It's a big part of the storyline. It would've been interesting to see a Tarantino version of Bond.

Meh. Not sure about that. The again, I'm not a big Tarantino fan anyway.

I think both were in the running for Casino Royale. I think a Tarantino film is an homage to the campy 60-70’s Bond films. Nolan made Tenet which is basically a trippy bond movie.
